주인공 브랜던이 매니지먼트 회사와 계약을 했지만 가족 문제 때문에 영감이 도저히 떠오르지 않아 시골에 가서 글을 쓰는데 그 곳에 자신의 이름으로 인형이 하나 배달온다. 그리고 브랜던은 인형의 규칙이라는 것에 대해서 알게 되었고, 그 규칙을 지키지 않아 여러 가지 일들이 일어난다.
