A prominent Czech journalist Saša Uhlová leaves her family and joins “cheap labour force” in Western Europe. Undercover, she works at an asparagus farm in Germany, tries her hand as a maid at a hotel in Ireland and takes care of the elderly in France. She experiences first-hand the struggles of Eastern European low-wage workers whose sacrifice and hard work allow for the Western society’s comfort. What is the real price that Europe pays for exploiting its own citizens? How do the lives of economic migrants, who have been forced to leave their children and elderly parents, look like? And why are privileged Europeans looking the other way?

Inner view to the social bubble of those who are running our society without being any part of it. Mixture of shots taken on unspecified VIP event and records from artist’s performative piece which he realized in Prague, is a though reflexion of bitter reality of our lives: No matter how many plastic straws we won’t use, it is not us, who sets the limits.

부에나비스타 소셜 클럽 이후 미지의 뮤지션을 소개하는 현상이 본격적으로 일어났다. 그들은 영화를 통해 이름을 알린 다음 공연을 통해 세계의 관객과 만나는 과정을 거친다. 서구의 손길이 혜택처럼 작용하기에 비판할 점도 없지 않으나, 알려져 마땅한 뮤지션과 문화를 접하는 즐거움은 무시하기 힘들다. 영화는 1970년대 잠비아에서 발흥한 록의 경향인 ‘잠록’을 소개한다. 대다수 뮤지션이 세상을 떠난 현재, 잠록의 중심 밴드인 ‘WITCH – We Intend To Cause Havoc’의 보컬이었던 ‘재거리’를 앞세운 밴드가 유럽 투어에 나선다. 보통 아프리카 음악은 록에 영향을 끼친 것으로 알려진 바, 거꾸로 서구 사이키델릭 록의 영향을 받아 전개된 아프리카 음악의 흐름을 발견하는 놀라움이 크다.

Working conditions in the worst-paid jobs in the Czech Republic were examined by journalist Saša Uhlová during six months. She spent several weeks in a hospital laundrette, poultry house, cash register or waste sorting facility. Her experience became the basis of a lived and very personal report of invisible employees working in appalling conditions. Uhlová wrote a series of reports on her project that were published on the Alarm website. Apolena Rychlíková made them into a documentary film consisting of scenes shot at Uhlová's home and video footage taken during her work. Uhlová accompanies the picture with read commentary.

Jan Hus - A Mass for Three Dead Men tries to recover the legacy of the medieval reformist priest Jan Hus who was burnt to death by inquisition for his criticism and calling for reformation of the Catholic Church in 1415. The story takes place in the late 20th Century and relates to history of territory recently known as the Eastern Block. Jan Hus introduces three individuals - Ryszard Siwiec, Oskar Brüsewitz, and Graham Bamford, who set themselves on fire to protest against the political regimes in which they lived, and against which they had struggled.
