한 공산주의 잡지 출간에 대한 비디오 르포를 만들려 하는 두 좌파 언론인이 이미지와 텍스트, 그들의 상관성에 대한 질문을 던진다. 고다르는 이 영화를 만든 계기를 회상하며, 68년 5월 당시 TV의 정보와 이미지, 소리가 영화만큼이나 자신에게 강력한 영향을 끼쳤기 때문이라고 했다.

고다르는 비디오 화면 앞에 앉아서 평범한 부부의 일상을 분석한다. 노동과 섹스, 일상적인 생활 속에도 권력 관계는 확연하다. "넘버 투"를 만들면서부터 고다르는 대안 매체로서 비디오의 가능성을 실험하기 시작한다.

성배를 찾기 위한 고투에서 실패하고 돌아온 아더왕과 기사들. 아더는 자신이 신을 노하게 했을지도 모른다는 두려움 속에서 원탁의 방을 폐쇄하고, 남은 기사들은 두 개의 파벌로 나뉘게 된다. 란슬로트를 중심으로 모인 기사들은 그가 영광을 다시 가져주리라는 희망을 갖고 있는 반면, 다른 편의 중심인 모드레드는 성배 찾기에 반대했었던 인물로 이제 란슬로트에 대해 음모를 꾸미고 있다. 그러나 란슬로트는 왕비 기니비어에 대한 사랑, 아더왕에 대한 충성, 신에 대한 경배라는 어려운 문제를 놓고 무엇이 옳은 길인가를 끊임없이 자문한다.

The gripping footage was broadcast by television, providing the first report of the event. In addition to the news footage, the film features never-before-viewed scenes taken prior to the invasion that crushed Prague's anti-Communist movement.
