A love story which unfolds over three days and nights on the outskirts of the metropolis. Seventeen-year-old Ema (Dorota Nvotová) breaks up with 'dude' Viktor (Lukás Latinák), has a fling with future pilot Karel (Mário Kubas), and meets a real man (Ondrej Vetchý), a taxi driver without a taxi. In the tangle of relationships, the characters sometimes have an opportunity to share their feelings, but sometimes they simply pass each other by. The story is told through Ema's eyes as she observes the world around her while searching for love, fun, and joy. But she's not the only one looking for happiness, nor the only one who finds it hard to avoid hurting others in the process. Ema's abandoned mother (Jana Hubinská) looks for another chance for love, while Karel's parents try to put long-lost meaning back into their marriage.

Two competing parties are not only ready to kill the other, but also (if necessary) the potential groom. This film has enabled the members of the cast, composed mainly of the brightest stars of the Czech acting scene of that time, to show an incredible acting range, from the lightest comedy to the darkest cynical morbidity.

While the women attend the horse races, the father sits home getting drunk and watching football. The overweight daughter-in-law is upset because she has blown her chances to become a ballerina. Three blue collar workers have a night out in big city Prague.

Widowed yeoman Tuma and his household are on their way to help the town of Kourim, which is under attack by the papist troops. His son Ondra is secretly following his father. Miksík the castellan, who is responsible for Ondra, finds himself forced to set off after the boy. They are both captured by soldiers from Kutná Hora. Miksík sacrifices himself to give Ondra a chance to flee. On the way, Ondra runs into the orphan Sulík. The two boys become friends and begin to wander together.

Comedy based on short Sean O'Casey play. John Jo Mulligan finds himself in a situation with which his pious conscience cannot cope. He has spent a night with the cunning seductress Angela. Full of remorse and dreading the ruin of his reputation, he tries to get rid of her, fearing that his pal Halibut or his landlady Miss Mossie might get to know. Angela sees her chance, turns gold-digger and does not leave before relieving John of a considerable amount of money.

때는 제2차 세계대전. 체코의 작은 마을에도 나치의 마수는 어김없이 드리워지고, 유대인의 상업행위에도 제동이 걸린다. 이로 인해 가난하고 어수룩한 소작농 토노에게 귀가 들리지 않는 노년의 유대인 과부 로잘리가 운영하는 단추 가게를 가로챌 기회가 찾아온다. 동서가 기관원인 든든한 빽을 둔 덕에 공짜로 가게를 차지하게 된 토노와 졸지에 피고용인 신분이 되어버린 로잘리의 사이가 좋지 않은 건 너무도 당연한 일이다. 하지만 매일같이 투닥거리는 와중에도 토노는 로잘리에게 진심 어린 우정을 느끼게 되고, 며칠 뒤 그녀가 아우슈비츠에 끌려갈 운명임을 알게 되자 감당할 수 없는 혼란에 빠져든다.
