화성원자우주해군(Imperial Atomic Space Navy) 제7함대(Battle Group Seven) 화성영토 탐험대(Martian Territorial Frontier). 지구 할로윈 데이 축제일에 녹색피부의 야릇하게 생긴 5인의 화성인이 지구에 불시착한다. 이들을 본 지구인들은 단지 이들이 할로윈 데이의 축제옷을 입은 아이들로 여기고, 낯선 지구에서 방황하던 다섯명의 화성인들은 지구를 정복하기로 하고 갖가지 소동을 벌이기 시작한다. 라디오 방송국을 점령하여 자신들의 점령 사실을 발표하나 사람들은 심각해하지 않고 오직 E. T의 존재를 믿는 동네보안관 샘(더글라스 바)의 어린딸 캐시만이 위협을 감지하고 아버지와 함께 지구를 지키려는 노력을 펼친다. 그러나 안하무인의 5인조 화성인들은 계속 말썽을일으켜 가는데...
