고아인 올리버는 어린 나이에 강제노역을 당하게 되는데, 배고픔을 이기지 못하고 밥을 더 달라는 요구를 하다 문제아로 낙인이 찍힌다. 강제 노역소 관리자는 문제아로 찍힌 올리버를 장의사에게 넘긴다. 장의사 사무실에서 조금은 안정된 삶을 찾았지만 이내 장의사 집 아들과 말다툼으로 도망가게 된다. 무작정 도망 나온 올리버는 런던으로 향한다. 아는 사람이 아무도 없는 런던에서 올리버는 소매치기 다저를 만난다. 우연한 기회로 다저 일행과 같이 살게 된 올리버. 소매치기 수업을 착실히 받던 올리버는 실전을 시작한 첫날부터 경찰에 잡힌다. 올리브를 자신의 물건을 훔친 범인으로 오해한 브라운 로우 씨는 올리브를 자신의 밑에서 일하게 한다. 다저 일행은 올리버가 자신들의 정체를 밝힐까 두려워 올리버를 납치해 감금하지만, 올리버를 불쌍히 여긴 다지 일행의 낸시는 브라운로우에게 올리버에 대한 정보를 알려주고 올리버를 구출한다.

고등학교 졸업과 동시에 여자친구에게 채인 스콧 토마스. 수년 간 이메일과 채팅으로 사귀었던 자신의 독일어 과목 공부를 도와준 독일 친구가 남자가 아닌 아리따운 여성임을 알게 되자, 세 명의 친구들과 함께 그녀를 만나러 유럽 여행에 나서면서 갖가지 소동이 벌어진다.

사고 후 죽음 직전까지 갔던 사이먼은 어느 병원에서 의식을 되찾는다. 하지만 지난 2년간의 기억은 사라진 채다. 담당 의사는 단기간 기억 상실증이라며 위로를 하지만 그는 현재가 몇 년 인지도 인식하지 못하며 혼란스러워 하며 잃어버린 기억을 되찾기 위해 노력한다. 그 때 미스터리의 여인 클레어가 찾아와 그의 품안에 안겨 눈물을 흘리지만 그런 그녀조차도 알아보지 못한다. 그 후 사이먼에겐 이상한 일이 반복된다. 마지막 기억을 갖고 있는 2000년과 새로운 기억이 시작되는 2002년을 넘나들며 그의 기억을 밟기 시작한 것. 한편 기억해내지 못하는 지난 과거 속에서 형의 죽음을 알아버린 순간, 큰 충격을 받는데...

1939년 폴란드 바르샤바, 유명한 유대계 피아니스트 블라디슬로프 스필만은 한 인기 라디오 프로그램에서 쇼팽의 야상곡을 연주하다 폭격을 당한다. 이후 유태인인 스필만과 가족들은 게토에서 생활하지만, 결국 수용소로 향하는 기차에 몸을 싣게 된다. 가족들을 죽음으로 내보내고 간신히 목숨을 구한 스필만은 허기와 추위, 고독과 공포 속에서 마지막까지 생존해 나간다. 자신을 도와주던 몇몇의 사람마저 떠나고, 자신만의 은신처에서 끈질기게 생존을 유지하는 스필만. 어둠과 추위로 가득한 폐건물 속에서 은신생활 중 스필만은 우연찮게 순찰을 돌던 독일 장교에게 발각되는데...

가문 대대로 내려오던 저택을 잃은 슬픔에 잠겨 있던 호레즈코 백작 앞에 갑자기 중세에서나 볼 것 같은 인물이 나타난다. 그 남자는 얼굴에 칼로 벤 상처가 있는 허약한 노인이었다. 이 노인이 고개를 들어 호레즈코 백작을 바라보자 백작은 그가 자신의 시중을 들던 충성스런 하인, 제르베즈라는 사실을 알게 된다. 제르베즈는 호레즈코 가문 사람들이 잔인하게 학살당하던 그 끔찍한 날 밤의 사건을 들려준다. 그리고 이 학살의 장본인은 다름 아닌 판사의 동생 소플리카이다. 이야기를 들은 호레즈코는 흥분해 소플리카와의 계약을 모두 취소하고 무슨 일이 있어도 가문의 명예를 회복하겠다고 다짐한다. 그러나 그는 우선 소플리카 가문과의 사냥에 참여해야 한다.

Set in 1870's New York, a spinster heiress is courted by a much younger, penniless man, much to the chagrin of her over-protective father, and must decide whether to spend the rest of her life alone, or marry a man who is interested in her only because of her inheritence.

During the Nazi era, a Jewish woman on the run takes a trolley which passes near the Warsaw ghetto, where the uprising battle is taking place, and some passengers are struck by stray bullets. They take temporary refuge in an empty building, and there she has a chance meeting with her ex-fiancé. He offers to put her up--that is, hide her--for a few days. He's now married, a professional who lives in an idyllic suburb reached by a trolley that runs through the woods. His wife seems more committed to putting up the fugitive than he is. The story involves the neighbors, the building owner who avoids involvement and seeks solace in classic poetry, and the super and his suspicious wife.

In the 1890s, Father Adolf Daens goes to Aalst, a textile town where child labor is rife, pay and working conditions are horrible, the poor have no vote, and the Catholic church backs the petite bourgeoisie in oppressing workers. He writes a few columns for the Catholic paper, and soon workers are listening and the powerful are in an uproar. He's expelled from the Catholic party, so he starts the Christian Democrats and is elected to Parliament. After Rome disciplines him, he must choose between two callings, as priest and as champion of workers. In subplots, a courageous young woman falls in love with a socialist and survives a shop foreman's rape; children die; prelates play billiards.

2차대전중 나치 치하에서 살아남기 위해 출생을 가장해야 했던 유태인 소년의 실제 있었던 생존기를 치밀하게 그려낸 작품이다. 평범한 소년 솔로몬(마르코 호르슈나이더)은 독일의 유태인 탄압으로 가족과 함께 폴란드로 이주한다. 하지만 독일군이 폴란드까지 밀고 들어오자 솔리와 형만이 안전한 곳으로 피난을 간다. 피난 도중 어린 솔로몬은 형을 놓치고 홀로 남게 된다. 이때부터 솔로몬의 생존을 위한 노력이 시작된다. 소련령 고아원에 들어간 솔로몬은 "스탈린"을 외침으로써 살아남고 독일군에게 잡혔을 때는 독일인으로 위장하여 인정을 받는다. 훌륭한 독일 군인으로 청년나치학교에 보내진 솔로몬은 그 안에서도 두각을 보이는 학생으로 활동한다. 하지만 솔로몬은 유태인이고 유태인을 죽이는 훈련을 거듭하는 나치학생들 속에서 솔로몬은 갈등을 겪게 된다. 그 와중에 연합군과 독일군 전투에 배치된 솔로몬은 연합군에게 항복한다. 연합군이 유태인이라는 솔로몬의 말을 믿어주지 않아 죽게 되었을 때 그곳에서 잃어버렸던 형을 만나 살아남게 된다.

줄거리나치 독일에 점령당한 바르샤바의 1942년을 무대로 아동문학가, 교육자로 활동하며 소아과 의사로도 더 유명한 폴란드 유태계 혈통의 야누스 코르작 박사가 설립한 고아원을 중심으로 박사의 말년을 그리고 있는 영화이며, 당시 촬영된 여러 기록 사진들을 영화의 배경으로 삽입하여 어려움속에서도 사랑하는 아이들과 생을 함께 하는 한 인간의 발자취를 그리고 있다.

Russia, 1870. A group of young anarchist revolutionaries set out to overthrow the Czarist regime through violence. Their attacks create a climate of psychosis and mutual distrust among the population, but in reality, both revolutionaries and repressors are being manipulated by a diabolical individual.

동부 폴란드의 외딴 지역. 유럽 전역에서 유태인을 가득 실은 기차가 소비버에 도착한다. 독일군들은 재봉사, 구두 수선공 등 유용한 사람들만 골라내고, 나머지 대부분의 부녀자, 노인들을 목욕을 시킨다는 명목하에 가스실로 보내버린다. 결국, 그곳에 수용된 사람들은 모두 탈출하지 않으면 죽게된다는 사실을 알게된다. 어느 날, 몇몇 유태인 소련 병사들이 전쟁포로로 소비버 수용소에 들어온다. 전원 탈출을 계획하고 있던 유태인들에게 그들은 큰 힘이 되어준다. 결국, 치밀한 계획을 짜고 초유의 전원 탈출에 성공하지만 절반이나 되는 사람들이 목숨을 잃고 만다. 충격을 받은 나치는 수용소를 밀어버리고 소비버에 관련된 모든 서류를 소각시키는데...

1982, Poland. A translator loses her husband and becomes a victim of her own sorrow. She looks to sex, to her son, to law, and to hypnotism when she has nothing else in this time of martial law when Solidarity was banned.

A Pole who spent time in an internment camp during the war on the Swiss-German border, visits the site many years later and recalls these days. He meets with other Poles confined in the same camp, including several women, in whose he had romantic interests.

In May of 1983, a man turns 49 and, with his 17-year old son, journeys to the village in Baden that he left 40 years before. He wants to discover what happened then, the truth about an affair his mother had with a young Polish prisoner of war, how the authorities came to learn of it, the lovers' arrest, and the aftermath. While his son takes Polaroid photographs, he retraces the steps of his childhood and interviews those who should remember. The story is disclosed in flashbacks that focus on the lovers (Paulina and Stanislaus), on a jealous and conniving neighbor, and on Mayer, the local SS commander who wants to find a way out of inevitable consequences.

프랑스 혁명이 민중혁명의 국면에 접어들고 과거 혁명세력이 주도권을 잡은 이후, 로베스 삐에르의 공포정치가 혁명을 압도하는상황을 배경으로 하고 있다. 이때 벌어지는 당통과 로베스 삐에르의 대립은 정치적, 이념적 갈등, 그리고 혁명의 자기파괴적 달레마와 모순의 문제를 내포한 것이다. 당통은 로베스 삐에르가 혁명의 이름으로 혁명을 파괴하고, 또한 독재를 경계한다고 하면서도 실제로 독재로 가고 있다고 공격한다. 따라서 국민의 적은바로 혁명정부이며, 이 정부를 이끄는 공공안전위원회의 테러리즘과 전체주의가 혁명을 배반하는 것이라 비난한다. 반면 로베스 삐에르는 중산 계급을 중심으로 시민의 우상이 되고 있는 당통을 처형한 후에 남는 것은 오로지 공포정치 밖에 없음을 알면서도, 당통에 대한 재판에 질 경우 혁명은 끝이 난다는 위기감 때문에 당통은 반혁명자로 처형할 것을 결심하기에 이른다. 당통은 관용과 평화와 정의를 주장하는 자신의 희생이 마침내 민중의눈을 뜨게할 것이라 스스로 믿고 처형 후에 자신의 잘려진 머리를 민중드르에게 보여줄 것을 당부하였지만 민중은 그의 뜻에 따르지 않았다. 로베스 삐에르는 그의 처형 순간 혁명이 잘못돼가고 있음을 자인하지만....

A young architect is locked up in prison. He recalls his uncompromising youth and gradual sliding into the moral swamp of compromises. He was not alone. A group of his friends, dreamers and glass house builders, accompanied him.

이 영화는 1980년대 말 폴란드의 공산정권을 붕괴시킨 거대한 자유노조운동에 대한 이야기이다. 속편에 등장했던 다큐멘터리 감독 아그니에츠카(크리스티나 잔다 분)가 다시 모습을 드러내는데 그녀는 폴란드 노동자의 영웅이었던 비르쿠트의 아들 마테우시(예르지 래드지빌로빅츠 분)의 아내가 되어있다. 마테우시는 1980년 그단스크에서 발생한 파업에서 자유노조운동에 앞선 주동자로, 지식인들이 노조에 가입하도록 설득한다. 영화는 가까운 미래의 화면과 그단스크의 새로운 파업을 교차로 보여줌으로써 결과에 대한 예상과 함께 기대를 하게 한다.

A violinist in a provincial Polish orchestra, whose husband is the director of the ensemble, on a visit to the US ties up with the world- renowned symphony conductor. As it turns out he was once in love with violinist's mother. The conductor, a slightly unstable hypochondriac, returns to Poland to lead the provincial orchestra. He also tries to revive old love affair using the violinist as a surrogate of her mother. Her husband is resentful of the conductor for both personal and professional reasons.

Set in the late '20s. A thirtyish young man, who heads a small factory, faints at the funeral of a close friend. He decides to go home to his aunt and uncle for a while, but gets involved with a family of five women who had been in love with him at one time though he had apparently loved only one, who, unknown to him, has died since his departure. The women are mainly disillusioned with life or estranged from husbands while the youngest has a crush on him.

Tadeusz Krzakoski (Krzysztof Kowalewski), the director of a failing state-owned company, is married with problems. His mistress, the daughter of a Communist party bigwig, says she's pregnant and Tadeusz knows he'll have to marry her to save his reputation and his job. But divorce is never simple and Bareja's screwball comedies are never boring.

In 1931, just before the New Year, in a house of architect Henryk Zaremba scream rips the night. The daughter of Zaremba is found killed in her bedroom, obviously killed with a pickaxe. The police arrives and starts the investigation. Rita Gorgonova, the governess of the girl and also lover of Zaremba becomes the main suspect. Film based on real events - investigation and court trials of the most famous pre-war Polish murder case. Despite being historically accurate the movie is both involving and entertaining since the case was simple on the surface, but very complicated in details.

"Alone"- A psychological and moral drama dealing with the crisis of feelings in interpersonal relations. Young heroes, basing their relationship on a program-based resignation from emotional involvement, under the influence of a tragic accident, change the rules of past coexistence.

Man of Marble is a Polish film about a student making a film about a bricklayer who was once idolized. She interviews people who knew him and finds old footage that lead to an unfolding mystery that causes her producer to cancel the project.

Modest editor, has shipped his wife and kids for the weekend, and is trying to relax in his house at the outskirts of Warsaw. His quiet evening is only disturbed by the accidental forecast made by a Gypsy woman, that at evening time he will murder a mysterious brunet.

Andrzej Wajda's English-language film of a novella by Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, aka Joseph Conrad, about a young man in his first command as a sea captain. A series of crises prove incredibly difficult for his new authority, for the sea is curiously becalmed and the crew is weakened by feverish malaria. When the first mate's fear convinces many that the ship is haunted and cursed by the malevolent spirit of the previous captain, the young man must cope with their superstition as well as the conspicuous absence of much-needed medicine.
