From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.   Murray Burnett was born in New York City in 1911. He was a high school teacher before becoming a playwright. His second wife was actress Adrienne Bayan. They met when she had a role in Hickory Street. Burnett was the uncle of documentary director Barbara Kopple. Burnett died on September 23, 1997 in New York City. Burnett also wrote the play Hickory Street, based on his experiences as a teacher, which opened on Broadway in 1944. He wrote, produced, and directed many radio plays, including the 1952 ABC series Café Istanbul with Marlene Dietrich as Mlle. Madou. This show was transformed into Time for Love which ran for 38 episodes on CBS Radio in 1953. 2차 대전으로 어수선한 프랑스령 모로코, 미국인인 릭(험프리 보가트)은 암시장과 도박이 판치는 카사블랑카에서 카페를 운영하고 있다. 어느 날 미국으로 가기 위해 비자를 기다리는 피난민들 틈에 섞여 레지스탕스 리더인 라즐로(폴 헨라이드)와 아내 일자(잉그리드 버그만)이 릭의 카페를 찾는다. 일자는 릭의 옛 연인이었다. 라즐로는 릭에게 미국으로 갈 수 있는 통행증을 부탁하지만 아직도 일자를 잊지 못하는 릭은 선뜻 라즐로의 청을 들어주지 못한다. 경찰서장 르노와 독일군 소령 스트라세는 라즐로를 쫓아 릭의 카페를 찾고, 결국 릭은 라즐로와 함께 일자를 떠나보내는데...
