A quiet painter, separated from his wife for a year, receives a suitcase in the mail from his mother, whom he hasn't seen since infancy. 자신이 백인이고 천주교인임을 자랑스럽게 생각하고 그외의 다른 사람들에 대해서 지독한 편견을 갖고 있는 피베르는 차를 타고 여행에서 돌아오던 중 교통사고를 당해 차와 같이 물에 빠지게 된다. 유태인 기사는 안식일이라 일을 할 수 없다고 떠나고, 밤이 되어 그는 혼자 먼 곳의 불빛을 찾아 어느 공장으로 들어간다. 그곳에서 어떤 독재 아랍공화국인들이 슬리만이라는 쿠테타 음모자를 묶어 놓고는 심문하는 광경을 목격하는데 그것 때문에 결국 슬리만과 함께 쫓기는 처지가 된다. 그러다가 그들은 우연히 미국 뉴욕에서 파리에 다니러 온 야곱이라는 유태인 랍비와 그의 보조 랍비인 샤뮤엘의 옷을 빌려입고 유태인 구역으로 간다. 야곱 랍비를 기다리고 있던 유태인들은 피베르를 의심없이 야곱 랍비로 알고 열렬히 환영한다. 유태교에 대해서 아무것도 모르는 그가 랍비 행세를 하자니 여간 고충이 아닌데 마침 그의 유태인 기사가 나타나 그를 도와준다. 그러는 사이에 독재정권에 항거하는 슬리만의 쿠테타가 성공해서 슬리만은 대통령으로 추대된다. 피베르는 자신의 딸과 첫눈에 사랑을 느낀 슬리만을 주저없이 사위로 맞아 드린다. 그동안의 작은 모험들이 유태인과 유색인종에 대한 그의 편견을 깨트리는 것이다.

옆 통로에서 시작한다. 창문 앞에 서면 벽 밖에 보이지 않고 줄을 서도 임금을 받지 못한다. 이 영화는 또한 이름과 나이가 적힌 신분 증명서를 교환하면서 시작한다. 총파업은 이렇게 해제되고 모든 것이 작동을 멈췄다. 자동차는 물론 노동자들까지도. 마침내 거리에서도 사람들이 수군댄다. 뭐라 부를 말도 없고 할 말을 찾을 길도 없다. 새로운 사상은 그렇게 다가오고 있었다.

Made without proper language, just gibberish and grunts, "Themroc" is an absurdist comedy about a man who rejects every facet of normal bourgeois life and turns his apartment into a virtual cave.

The sleepy little village of Loubressac is well on its way to becoming a ghost town. To save the town, the local citizenry hatch a plan to attract tourists. To their horror, the plan misfires when a group of hippies are the first to move in. The hippies' free and unconventional ways quickly upset the staid lives of the locals. Then one of the locals is found murdered, and suspicion inevitably falls on the newcomers. Eventually, the locals and the hippies join forces to solve the mystery, and in the course of their adventures learn to respect each others' ways.
