Staples, a successful plant operator, is brought in from Ohio to take an executive position at Ramsey & Co. in New York. Ramsey will not fire Briggs, instead doing everything he can to humiliate and sabotage Briggs until he resigns.

테리(말론 브랜도)와 그의 형 찰리(로드 스타이거)는 부둣가 노조를 장악하고 있는 프렌들리(리 J. 콥) 일당의 하수인 노릇을 하며 살아간다. 어느 날 테리는 프렌들리의 부탁으로 친구인 조이 도일을 옥상으로 불러내는 임무를 맡는다. 조이는 선창 노동자로 부두범죄위원회에 나가 프렌들리의 부정행위를 증언하기로 되어있었고 이를 미리 눈치 챈 프렌들리가 테리를 이용해 조이를 옥상으로 유인한 뒤 옥상에서 밀어 조이를 살해한 것이다. 뒤늦게 이 사실을 안 테리는 자책감에 괴로워하고 그러는 가운데 조이의 여동생을 만나 야릇한 감정에 사로잡힌다. 한편 이 마을의 배리 신부(칼 몰덴)는 부둣가 노조를 중심으로 벌어지고 있는 부당행위를 막아야 한다고 결심하고 노동자들을 선동하려 하지만 일자리를 잃거나 보복을 당할까 두려워한 노동자들은 선뜻 신부님의 일에 동참하려 하지 않는다. 그 가운데 듀간이란 노동자가 신부와 함께 끝까지 노조를 대항해서 싸울 것을 약속하지만 또 다시 프렌들리 일당에게 살해되고 만다. 베리 신부는 테리에게 조이의 죽음에 관해 증언해 줄 것을 부탁하지만 테리는 용기를 내지 못한다. 그러는 가운데 조이의 죽음에 관한 청문회가 다가오고 테리는 청문회의 증인으로 출석 요구장을 받는다. 프렌들리 일당은 테리의 형인 찰리를 협박해 테리의 입을 막아보려 하지만 형 조차 끝내 테리의 결심을 바꿔놓지 못한다. 결국 프렌들리 일당은 찰리마저 잔인하게 살해하고 테리에게 다시 한번 마지막 경고를 한다. 테리는 복수를 결심하고 청문회에 나가 프렌들리가 조이와 듀간의 살인을 지시했음을 증언한다. 프렌들리는 조이의 일자리를 빼앗는 방법으로 그에게 복수하려 하고 테리는 부두 노동자들 사이에서 조차 밀고자란 이유로 따돌림을 받는다. 하지만 테리는 끝까지 프렌들리에 맞서 대항하고 테리의 진심을 알게 된 노동자들 모두 테리를 지지하여 부두의 노동조합 운영권을 빼앗는다.

Hymn of the Nations, originally titled Arturo Toscanini: Hymn of the Nations, is a 1944 film directed by Alexander Hammid, which features the "Inno delle nazioni," a patriotic work for tenor soloist, chorus, and orchestra, composed by Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi in the early 1860s. (For this musical work, Verdi utilized the national anthems of several European nations.) In December 1943, Arturo Toscanini filmed a performance of this music for inclusion in an Office of War Information documentary about the role of Italian-Americans in aiding the Allies during World War II. Toscanini added a bridge passage to include arrangements of "The Star-Spangled Banner" for the United States and "The Internationale" for the Soviet Union and the Italian partisans. Joining Toscanini in the filmed performance in NBC Studio 8-H, were tenor Jan Peerce, the Westminster Choir, and the NBC Symphony Orchestra. The film also included the overture to Verdi's opera La Forza del Destino.

Les Berceaux is about the dedicated sailors who venture out into the deepest ocean, and the wives who must await their return. The woman sits in her living room, gently rocking her infant’s cradle as she sings, the movement mimicking the rolling motion of the ocean waves. Many men will lose their lives to the ocean’s vast waters, but the juxtaposition of death and life (in the cradle) suggests an endless and noble cycle. Kirsanoff imaginatively places a rear-projection screen outside the woman’s window, through which, as she sings, we can watch the ocean waves lapping up against the shore, or the ship charging majestically over the water. 중학교 기숙사생들의 반항을 담은 비고의 첫 번째 극영화. 권위적인 기숙사 사감과 교활한 교장 등 억압적인 학교 교육에 맞서 반란을 일으키는 학생들의 모습을 영화화한 까닭에 격렬한 논쟁을 불러일으켰고, 결국 교권을 침해했다는 이유로 상영이 전면 금지되기도 했다. 기숙사에서의 취침 점호, 깃털이 날리는 베개 싸움 장면, 결말의 지붕 전투 장면 등은 초현실주의와 사실주의가 결합된 매혹적인 장면들이다.

프랑스의 수영 챔피언인 장 타리스가 수영법에 대해 알려주는 다큐멘터리. 10분 정도의 짧은 스포츠 다큐멘터리임에도 불구하고, 장 비고 특유의 스타일과 미학이 잘 드러나 있다. 특히 물에 대한 묘사가 탁월하며, 이중인화, 슬로우모션, 점프컷 등 아방가르드 영화 특유의 테크닉 역시 효과적으로 사용되고 있다.
