"Un Crime" takes place over a single night, between 10pm and 6am. It takes place in a single setting - a millionaire's apartment in Lyon. The film is about the conflict between two men, alone, face to face in the closed world of the apartment. The first man is a famous lawyer named Dunand. The second is Frédéric Chapelin-Tourvel, Dunand's rich client, twenty years his junior. Throughout the night, Dunand tries to track down the truth. Did Frédéric kill his father and mother, in particularly barbarous circumstances ?

여름 방학을 보냈던 시골 별장을 그리워하는 마르셀을 위해 엄마는 매주 주말마다 별장에 가기로 한다. 하지만 즐거움도 잠시, 가방과 보따리를 메고 4시간을 걸어야 하는 길은 꼬마 마르셀에게 벅차다. 주변에서 운하 관리인을 하고 있는 아버지의 제자 부지그는 마르셀 가족에게 별장으로 가는 지름길을 알려준다. 개인 소유지를 지나가는 길이기에 함부로 들어가선 안 되지만, 마르셀의 가족은 결국 지름길로 향한다. 마치 모험을 하듯 지름길을 지나가는 마르셀 가족은 그 곳에서 특별한 사람들을 만나게 되는데... 의 아버지에 관한 이야기에 이어 마르셀 파뇰의 ‘어린 시절의 추억’ 중 어머니에 관한 기억을 영화화한 작품. 새 학기가 시작되고 마르셀은 시골에서 보냈던 여름방학 생활을 잊지 못해, 가족들 모두는 주말마다 시골에서의 한때를 보내기로 결정한다.

교사인 아버지와 재단사인 어머니를 둔 마르셀에게 있어 아버지는 신에 가까운 존재였다. 어머니는 장에 가실 때마다 마르셀을 교실에 맡기셨고 이런 순간마다 자신보다 큰 아이들을 가르치시는 아버지가 무척 존경스러웠다. 그러던 어느날 '어머니는 아이를 벌 주셨습니다'라는 칠판 글씨를 보고 '엄마는 나 벌 안줘'라고 반박했고, 제대로 글을 배운 적이 없는 마르셀이 글씨를 읽자 아버지는 무척 기뻐했으나 어린 아이는 아이답게 자라길 바라는 어머니는 마르셀에게 책도 교실도 금지시켰다. 마르셀의 동생이 태어나자 아버지는 공립학교로 전임을 갔고 노처녀였던 이모가 고급 공무원이며 부자인 이모부와 결혼했다. 그 여름 이모의 가족과 마르셀의 가족은 시골 농장으로 휴가를 떠났다. 마르셀에게 있어 신과 같던 존재였던 아버지는 이모부와 같이 있을 땐 경쟁적인 관계가 되었고, 특히 사냥에 있어서는 이모부를 따라가지 못한다. 어떻게 해서든 아버지가 자신에게 있어 제 자리를 찾기 원한 마르셀은 아버지와 이모부 몰래 사냥터에 따라가 아버지 앞으로 새를 몰아주려 하지만 길을 잃어버린다. 그러나 그곳에서 우연히 만난 릴리의 도움으로 길을 찾는다. 그 순간 총소리가 들리고 마르셀 앞에 새가 떨어진다. 아버지가 잡은 새였던 것이다. 드디어 사냥에 성공한 아버지. 그로 인해 마르셀은 아버지를 다시 만나게 된 것이다. 릴리와의 우정도 깊어만 가는데 어느덧 휴가의 마지막이 다가오고 있었다. 도시로 돌아가기 싫어진 마르셀은 릴리의 도움으로 가출을 시도하고, 릴리와 산으로 들어온 마르셀은 가정의 중요함을 깨닫고 다시 집으로 돌아온다.

팝 음악 작곡가인 에드워드 젠슨과 대학 교수 자격 시험 중에 있는 에스페라 발렌타인은 스키장에서 우연히 만나 사랑에 빠진다. 에드워드는 그녀를 위해서 노래를 작곡해 바치기도 하면서 두 사람의 사랑은 깊어가는데 조그만 오해들이 쌓이면서 그들의 갈등은 표면화된다. 그리고 마지막 관문인 구두 시험을 보는 발렌타인은 시험 문제로 몰리에르의 사랑을 받아들었다. 거기에 대해서 구술을 해야한 것이다. 그때 시험장에 와있는 에드워드를 발견한다. 그를 본 발렌타인는 문제에 대한 답변으로 자신의 사랑에 대한 생각을 눈물을 흘리면서 말한다. 결국 그녀는 합격하고 에드워드와도 화해하게 되고 그들의 사랑도 익어간다. 이때 캐롤라인 크루거가 부르는 주제가가 흘러나온다.

누벨바그 영화의 시나리오 작가인 쟈크(이브 몽탕)와 미국 방송국의 특파원인 수잔(제인 폰다)을 통해 프랑스 지식인들의 사상적 혼란을 반영한 작품. 두 사람의 러브 스토리를 통해 노동계급과 지식인 계급, 그리고 당시 영화의 상업성에 대해 논한다. 혁명에서의 지식인의 기능, 매체에서의 스타의 기능, 신문 및 잡지의 스틸 사진의 기호학 등을 엿볼 수 있다.
