Asakura's father
Hamanaka Koichi returns to his wife Hisako and family in a sadder, run-down section of eastern Tokyo after having run away from home years before. He gives no explanation of his absence and his family asks no questions. It is only through the questions that a young writer named Asakura, who is secretly in love with Hisako, poses of local shop owners, that we learn that Hamanaka's disappearance may be related to the fact that the woman everyone thought he would marry, Tami - who runs the cafe across the street from the Hamanaka electric store - had ended up tying the knot with another man who died soon thereafter.

She is understandably miffed, and a big disagreement results. But after some time goes by, she discovers why the friend needed the money so badly, and the couple are back on solid footing again.
The humorous tale of Jimbei, a miller, and his wife Osen who live in complete happiness. Based on a 1956 television feature on Japan’s national network, NHK, this is one of Uchida’s rarest films. A socially conscious drama with a contemporary backdrop, Dotanba focuses on the attempts to rescue a group of trapped miners. 동양 플라워즈의 스카우트맨 기시모토는 대학 야구의 강타자 쿠리타를 입단 시키도록 명령을 받았으나, 쿠리타에게는 그를 대학까지 보내며 키워준 다마키라고 하는 정체를 알 수 없는 남자가 함께 있고, 쿠리타는 다마키 애인의 여동생인 후에코와 사랑하는 사이다. 쿠리타를 얻기 위해 각 구단의 스카우트맨들이 분주한 속에 다마키는 쿠리타의 몸값과 함께 자신의 보수도 올리려고 결론을 나중으로 미룬다. 결국은 쿠리타가 귀성한 본가까지 스카우트맨이 들이닥쳐 욕심에 눈이 먼 가족들이 매수되어 형제간에 칼부림까지 일어나게 된다. 결국 쿠리타는 병상에 있는 다마키를 무시하고 오사카 삭스에 입단. 후에코와도 절연, 다마키는 죽게 된다. 너무나 추악한 싸움과 다마키의 몰인정함에 혐오감이 들었던 기시모토 였으나 다마키를 압도할 만한 포수를 찾는데 새로운 의욕을 불태우게 된다.

Three bank robbers, Eijima, Nojiri, and Takasugi, flee the police and escape into the mountains.
