1948 년 8 월 9 일. 나가사키에서 산파를 사는 노부코 전에 3 년 전에 원폭으로 잃은 것의 아들 코지가 느닷없이 나타난다. "엄마는 포기가 나쁘기 때문에 좀처럼 나오지되지 못 했어." 그날부터 코지는 때때로 노부코 앞에 나타나게된다. 두 사람은 많은 이야기를하지만, 가장 큰 관심은 코지의 연인 마치코의 것이었다.

Following the lives of three college rugby players drafted to serve in the military during WWII. “Quit working as a nurse!” “All right, I will!” thus began the married life of Yasuo and Keiko. But the reality is harsh. Keiko even had to work on the first night after her marriage. Ten years later, the married couple is still at it. Yauso tends to the house and their children, while Keiko sacrifices family life for life as an overworked nurse. One day, after Keiko comes home utterly exhausted and dejected from her work, Yasuo makes up his mind and writes a letter of resignation in her place. Upon learning of this, Keiko angrily declares that nursing is what she lives for and she will keep on working. Realising that that is one battle he will never win, Yasuo sends a letter to a newspaper -- “Nurses’ husbands, aren’t you having a hard time? Get together nurses’ husbands. Contact me.” There is a tremendous response. This leads to the formation of many unions of nurses’ husbands throughout the country.

‘팔묘촌’, ‘옥문도’의 작가 요코미조 세이시의 동명소설을 스크린에 옮긴 작품. 우리나라에는 소년탐정 ‘김전일’의 조부로 더 잘 알려진 명탐정 킨다이치 코스케가 이누가미 가문에서 벌어지는 연쇄살인사건을 해결해 나가는 추리물이다. 1976년 일본 최고의 흥행작이자 카도카와 영화사 시대를 연 기념비적 작품으로 독특한 오프닝과 몇몇 편집기법도 당시로서는 충격적이었다. 이 영화를 통해 킨다이치 코스케라는 가상의 인물은 일본의 국민탐정으로 떠 올랐고, 그가 등장하는 영화 및 TV 드라마가 수없이 만들어졌다. 2006년 감독 스스로 리메이크해 다시 한번 세상에 내놓기도 했던 작품.

The story takes place during the end of the Pacific War and the aftermath period and it focuses on Mizoguchi, who is the son of a Buddhist Priest. When his father dies, he’s sent to the Temple of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. Mizoguchi is physically unattractive and becomes, in some way, jealous of the beautiful Temple that he loves so much.
