The story of artist Edith Lake Wilkinson, a painter who was committed to an asylum in 1924 and never heard from again. All her worldly possessions were packed into trunks and shipped to a relative in West Virginia where they sat in an attic for 40 years. Edith's great-niece, Emmy Award winning writer and director Jane Anderson, grew up surrounded by Edith's paintings, thanks to her mother who had gone poking through that dusty attic and rescued Edith's work. The film follows Jane in her decades-long journey to find the answers to the mystery of Edith's buried life, return the work to Provincetown and have Edith's contributions recognized by the larger art world.

Six months pregnant and living in a beat-up tiny mobile home with her family in a grungy trailer park, Wanda Le Fauve thinks she has found the solution to her problems when she reads a newspaper and agrees to meet well-to-do Rachel Luckman and her husband. The childless Luckman's are desperate to raise a baby and Wanda is anxious to find a home for her latest. They strike a deal, and at first things are fine, but as the birth parents and the potential adoptive parents get to know each other, fundamental differences emerge. 대학원의 석사과정 논문을 준비하던 핀은 결혼을 약속한 샘이 두 사람을 위해 집을 수리하기 시작하자 외할머니와 이모할머니가 계신 시골로 내려온다. 외할머니와 이모할머니는 그곳의 친구들과 퀼트를 만드는 모임을 갖고 있다. 그들은 서로 다른 부분의 퀼트를 맡아 하나의 퀼트 작품을 만들어 핀의 결혼 선물로 주려고 준비하고 있다. 어느 무더운 날 핀은 할머니와 수영장으로 놀러 갔다가 그곳에서 리온이라는 남자를 만난다. 핀은 그와 사랑을 나누게 되고 리온과 샘 사이에서 갈등한다. 그런 핀에게 퀼트모임의 할머니와 그 친구들은 그들의 사랑과 인생에 관한 이야기를 들려준다. 그리고 예상치 못했던 어머니와의 만남으로 더욱 혼란이 온다. 할머니들의 합동 퀼트가 완성되고, 퀼트를 선물받은 핀은 할머니들이 이야기해준 사랑이 있는곳으로 자신을 데려다준다는 까마귀를 따라가게 되는데...

찰리 랭이 인생에서 원하는 것은 좋은 경찰과 도움을 주는 이웃이 되는 것과는 달리 아내는 모든 일이 돈으로 필요한 것 뿐이다. 미용사인 그녀는 가난한 퀸스 동네를 벗어나 맨하탄에 진출하고 싶어한다. 그리고 또 한 명, 작은 커피숍의 마음씨 착한 웨이트리스 이본느 비아시는 헤어진 남편 때문에 방금 파산 선고를 받고 말았다. 그녀가 법원으로부터 파산 선고를 받던 날 찰리는 단지 점심을 먹으려고 그 커피샵에 들어오게 된다. 천성은 못속인다고, 찰리는 이본느의 그늘진 얼굴을 지나치지 못하고 기분을 풀어주려 마음을 쓴다. 점심값외의 팁이 모자란 찰리는 아내를 위해 샀던 복권을 생각해 내고, 이본느에게 복권에 당첨되면 상금의 반을 나누고, 떨어지면 팁의 2배를 주겠다고 약속한다. 놀랍게도 찰리는 4백만달러 복권에 당첨된다. 더군다나 그는 이본느에 한 약속을 지켰다는 사실이다. 돈독이 오른 아내는 화를 냈지만 뉴욕 신문들은 백마탄 기사같은 경찰과 신데렐라같은 웨이트리스 얘기에 스포트라이트를 비춘다. 찰리, 이본느, 머리얼에게 주어진 갑작스런 부와 명성은 그들이 예상치 못한 경험을 하게 한다.
