한 시골 마을 자그마한 영화관 앞에서 미래에 변사가 되기를 꿈꾸면서 변사의 화법을 흉내 내는 한 소년과 소녀를 보여주면서 영화는 시작된다. 10년 후 청년으로 성장한 소년은 이웃 마을의 영화관과 경쟁 관계에 있는 많은 관객을 확보한 영화관에 조수로 인연을 맺게 되고 전속 변사의 태업으로 인해 변사로 입문하는 기회를 얻고 관객의 열광적인 반응을 얻는다. 그는 높은 인기를 얻으며 첫사랑과 재회하는 행운도 누리지만, 일확천금을 노리는 도둑들과 가짜 변사를 추적하는 경찰관 사이의 사건에 연루되고 만다.

Rieko Sugita, a young and beautiful hairdresser who happens to visit a bedding shop owned by Yoshitaro (Emoto) and the latter becomes so besotted with her that they begin an affair without his wife's knowledge. In a small town of Hokkaido, Yunni, Fusako Kurokawa (Saki Takaoka), lives a quiet life with her father. Life here is very simple, but it is good enough and she is happy enough. Days go on as usual. with some coincidence, she meets this man one day, Wataru Kadokura (Atsuro Watabe) a man who cannot speak. A very peaceful "time" now becomes part of her daily life as this strong emotion suddenly takes place in her simple quiet life.
