Travis Rice typically makes an annual pilgrimage to the mountains of Alaska. There, he finds and rides ridiculous lines and creates films that terrify and/or inspire the rest of us. Last year, COVID broke that tradition. However, fortunately for Travis, there’s plenty of backcountry right in his backyard in Jackson Hole. All of the sudden, he saw an opportunity to reset and reconnect with his old stomping grounds. Epic snow. Incredible terrain. Fresh air and beautiful solitude. Sometimes, Alaska comes to you.

Anchored by Elena Hight, a 2X Olympian, and X Games champion who, after her success in the world of competition, felt the need to open up a new world of possibilities with snowboarding's more wild places and people. The cast of characters includes legends both old and new, who are here to share their wisdom and experiences with this young rider. During this journey, she bears witness to these riders pushing their own comfort zones, all while she grows and begins to thrive in this brave new world.

Last winter, Travis Rice and Chris Rasman went deep into Alaska’s Tordillo Mountains. Their trip coincided with about five feet of fresh snow — which was followed up by about 100 MPH winds. This lead to long days of searching and even longer nights in the lodge, sipping exotic wines and contemplating fate or at least thinking about where, oh where, those pockets of good snow might be hiding. By the end of it, Travis and Chris started to feel like truffle pigs — animals known for their acute ability to find rare objects or situations. You know, like geographical oddities and good snow. In other words, they nailed it.

What happens when you take a Young Gun, a veteran, some chick and this other guy and drop them off in the middle of the snow-coated Canadian wilderness with a few boards and enough lenses to make even Marilyn Monroe blush? The documentary follows a crew of snowboarders for six weeks in the Chugach mountains, and showcases what it takes to ride these unique Alaskan mountains: the waiting, the stress, the dangers, everything that goes into it and is usually never shown. It also retraces some of the history of this unknown discipline and pays tribute to the pioneers. But the film really focuses on the human aspect and why these people do what they do.
