Paloma is a serious and highly articulate but deeply bored 11-year-old who has decided to kill herself on her 12th birthday. Fascinated by art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life and immediate circle, drawing trenchant and often hilarious observations on the world around her. But as her appointment with death approaches, Paloma finally meets some kindred spirits in her building's grumpy janitor and an enigmatic, elegant neighbor, both of whom inspire Paloma to question her rather pessimistic outlook on life.

파리의 외로운 싱글남 마티아스는 런던에서 아들과 단 둘이 살고 있는 죽마고우 앙트완으로부터 런던으로 이사오라는 제안을 받는다. 옆집에서 살자는 처음 계획과 달리 무료한 일상이 지루했던 마티아스는 앙트완의 가족과 함께 한집에서 살기를 계획하고, 두 집 사이에 있던 벽을 허문다. 그렇게 두 싱글 파파와 사랑스러운 아이들의 아슬아슬한 동거는 조금은 ‘딱딱한’ 규칙과 함께 시작된다. 동거의 규칙. 1. 보모 금지 2. 여자 출입금지 3. 통금시간은 12시! 평화로운 생활도 잠시, 마티아스는 자신의 서점에 들른 손님 오드리에게 첫눈에 반하게 된다. 그녀 역시 마티아스의 다정다감하고 유머스러운 매력에 빠져들게 되지만, 앙트완과 마티아스의 부부 같은 오묘한 관계를 보고 이별을 통보한다. 설상가상으로 아이들의 양육문제와 연애를 하면서 계속 규칙을 어기는 마티아스 때문에 두 사람의 갈등은 깊어져만 가는데… 과연, 두 싱글 파파의 동거는 해피엔딩이 될 수 있을까?

Two elderly ladies, Marie and Aminthe, both single and without children, live together in the house of their grandfather. Aminthe lives in the memory of Fabien, her husband to-be, who died in Indo-China more than fifty years ago. Marie, the elder one, likes to remind the happy time of their childhood - before they lost their parents prematurely. As kids, each have their own character flaws but seem to have a pure and simple childhood. Now, they live their pensions - small -, vegetables of the kitchen garden that Marie sells at the market and of the piano courses which Aminthe gives... Not enough to maintain their old residence, badly heated and of which the roof is to be remade... But when Aminthe affirms that it is necessary to sell and buy an apartment, Marie refuses categorically. Soon we learn what secrets these girls have kept all their lives.
