Aurélien Vernhes-Lermusiaux was born in Figeac. Having grown up near Les Causses – a desertic environment South of France - he developed very early an interest for abandoned spaces and ghosts inhabiting such places. He produces films, documentaries and interactive installations that question the links between the concept of "trace" and the questions of "memory". After a diploma in audiovisual (BTS) and majoring in cinema and philosophy at university, he finished his studies at the Fresnoy, national studio of contemporary arts. He has worked with directors such as André Téchiné, Sharunas Bartas and worked on the films of Jacques Audiard, Youssef Chahine, Elia Suleiman ... His films have been selected for national and international festivals and have been rewarded many times. His work has also been screened and exhibited in various museums and arts centers.

Santa Claus tries to outrun a gang of knife-wielding youth. It's one of several vignettes of Palestinian life in Israel - in a neighborhood in Nazareth and at Al-Ram checkpoint in East Jerusalem. Most of the stories are droll, some absurd, one is mythic and fanciful; few words are spoken. A man who goes through his mail methodically each morning has a heart attack. His son visits him in hospital. The son regularly meets a woman at Al-Ram; they sit in a car, hands caressing. Once, she defies Israeli guards at the checkpoint; later, Ninja-like, she takes on soldiers at a target range. A red balloon floats free overhead. Neighbors toss garbage over walls. Life goes on until it doesn't.

감옥에서 탈출한 국사범 안젤로티가 죄수복을 입은 채 누이동생이 가르쳐 준대로 성당에 숨어들었다가, 거기서 그림을 그리던 친구 카바라도시를 우연히 만난다. 안젤로티를 돕기로 한 카바라도시는 만일의 경우 자기 별장 정원의 낡은 우물에 비밀 지하실에 숨으라고 한다. 그때 대포 소리가 울리고, 탈옥이 발각됐다고 생각한 두 사람은 곧 떠날 준비를 하고 성당에서 나간다. 엇갈려서 등장한 성당지기 앞에 스카르피아가 경관들을 데리고 나타나 도망간 국사범을 찾기 위해 구석구석 조사하라고 명한다. 경관이 점심 바구니를 발견하여 가지고 오자 성당지기는, 카바라도시는 손도 대지 않았다고 말하고, 스카르피아는 안젤로티가 먹었다고 판단한다. 그때 토스카가 들어오자 스카르피아는 아타반티 가의 부채를 꺼내 보이며, 분명 누가 떨어뜨렸다고 토스카의 질투심을 선동하고, 그녀는 그의 계략을 모른 채 카바라도시의 변절에 분개하는데...
