The film is a thriller with ironic political overtones.

After World War I, Armistice Lloyd Hart goes back to practice law, former saloon keeper George Hally turns to bootlegging, and out-of-work Eddie Bartlett becomes a cab driver. Realmente em pouco tempo Tom e Matt ganham o bastante para frequentar os melhores lugares, usarem roupas finas e carros luxuosos, mas para manter este padrão de vida o preço é às vezes muito alto.
