Numa plataforma de óleo submarina localizada ao sul da Ilha Jeju, Hae-jun está trabalhando como supervisora de equipamentos da marinha num navio de prospecção de óleo chamado Eclipse. Com ela, está Jeong-man, um ex-colega do pai de Hae-jun, exercendo a função de capitão. Embora seu trabalho seja supervisionar a retirada do navio, ele sugere a realização de uma nova perfuração no solo aquático. Depois de três semanas de preparação, Hae-jun traz um novo membro subaquático, mas ele afunda quando o equipamento falha. Entretanto, Bud Brigman (Ed Harris), um mergulhador que chefia a plataforma, diz à operação que acaba de pressentir que sua equipe corre perigo, mas Brigman não poderia imaginar que iria se deparar com algo totalmente surpreendente.
