Götz Spielmann (born January 11, 1961 in Wels, Austria) is an Austrian director and scriptwriter.
Götz Spielmann grew up in Vienna. After High School, he lived in Paris for several months. From 1980 to 1987 he studied film direction and script-writing in Vienna at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. At the Viennese Filmacadamy, his professors included Harald Zusanek and Axel Corti.
After making several short films, and receiving his diploma with Vergiss Sneider!, with the drama Erwin und Julia, Spielmann had his first great success. In 1993, his film Der Nachbar won the Vienna Filmaward at the Viennale. And in 1994, his film for television Dieses naive Verlangen was awarded with the Erich-Neuberg-Preis. In 2006, he was honored with the Upper Austrian Landeskulturpreis in the “Film” section.
Spielmann is one of the most important contemporary Austrian Film directors. His films The Stranger and Antares were the Austrian candidates for Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Antares has been screened widely at more than thirty International Film Festivals.
Spielmann is on the committee of the Verband der Filmregisseure Österreichs (the Association of the Austrian film directors).
In the Linzer Kammerspiele (Linz, Upper Austria) he made his debut as Theatre Director with the performance of the play Der einsame Weg, written by Arthur Schnitzler. For the season 2006/2007, he wrote his first play for the theatre, the Landestheatre Linz, Imperium, which was first released on January 5, 2007 at the Linzer Kammerspiele.
In January 2009 Spielmann's Revanche was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

A Alemanha invade a Polônia em 1º de setembro de 1939 e isto marca o início da 2ª Guerra Mundial. Em menos de um mês a Polônia se rende e logo surge uma lista crescente de proibições e regras, que levaram ao virtual aprisionamento de meio milhão de judeus-poloneses em uma parte velha de Varsóvia, que ficou conhecido como o "Gueto de Varsóvia". O lugar logo se mostrou inadequado para alojar tantas pessoas. Além disto a comida era muito escassa, pois os nazistas reservaram para si 2617 calorias por dia, os poloneses tinham direito a 699 e os judeus apenas 184. A luta diária não era só contra a fome, mas também contra as doenças. Esta situação se agrava em 1942, com as "deportações diárias para o leste", que eram trens levando por dia seis mil judeus para os campos de concentração, onde eram executados em massa. Vendo que suas mortes eram apenas um questão de tempo, os judeus, liderados por Moredecai Anielewicz , fizeram a única coisa que os nazistas nunca esperaram: revidaram.

Two apartments are joined together, the demolition of a wall transfers two small flats into a big one. Seven young people move in and share the living quarters. They all have definite ideas about life and living together and want to make them come true. But they don´t really know what they want. Everyday life causes problems and when a merry-go-round of changing relationships among the young people begins to run quicker and quicker, the constant moving from one room to the other ands before the eyes of the astonished house superintendent with the setting up again of the wall which separated the two walls.

Spielmann was born in Wels in 1961, grew up in Vienna, Austria. Starts writing and directing while still in school. His first film is aired on television in 1978. In 1980 he starts studying screenwriting and directing at the Vienna Film Academy. Two films completed during his studies (Abschied von Hölderlin & Vergiss Sneider! receive international prizes and are screened at the Stadtkino, an arthouse cinema in Vienna. Spielmann graduates in 1987.
