Chand Usmani was an Indian actress in Hindi films from the 1950s to the late 1980s. She won the 1971 Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She is best remembered for playing self-sacrificing wives and mothers.

Avtar's Mother
Gayatri's mother-in-law Bindu Devi tries to set fire to her on her wedding night for her dowry; her husband Jainath is equally responsible for this attempt. Gayatri is saved by Triloki, but he doesn't have good intentions: he rapes her. Gayatri saves another woman from getting molested and both meet Maataji, who is also a victim of dowry. Maataji trains helpless women to fight against injustice and Gayatri turns into a rebel.
This is a 1990 Hindi-language Indian feature film directed by Yesh Chauhaan, starring Sumeet Saigal in lead role.

Mrs. Yashoda Singh
A poor widowed farmer, Dharma Singh, raises two children, a boy (Karan) and a girl (Geeta) on his own in a town called Rampur, and would like his son to grow up to be a police officer. Alas, that was not to be so, for heavy torrential rains strikes their region, separating the entire family, leaving Dharma wounded, and the two children ending up in a town called Sitapur. Geeta decides to work so that her brother can study. Her brother re-locates to Bombay city, and subsequently studies well, and becomes a Police Inspector. He is assigned his first major assignment to get rid of bandits near Sitapur, which he accepts, little knowing that the very people he is expected to get rid of are his very own sister, who is now a former jailbird, a notorious bandit who calls herself "Maut", and at odds with another bandit known as Daku Dharma Singh, who is none other than her father. Will Karan be able to fulfill his duties or will he end up joining his family in a life of crime.
Mrs. Roy
Justice M.K. Roy is a traditional and orthodox gentleman, who is unable to understand nor appreciate the carelessness of today's youth. He has brought up his daughter, Shobha, with these same traditions, and he hopes to get her married in a good household. To his shock and dismay, Shobha is in love with Ramesh Saxena, an unemployed youth, who has no respect for tradition. Justice Roy is opposed to any alliance with Ramesh in any way whatsoever, until and unless Ramesh gets a suitable and respectable job, and learns to respect tradition. Ramesh does get a job with a textile mill, and gets a bonus payment, which is to be presented to him in an open ceremony, presided over by Justice Roy. When the bonus payment is being handed over to Ramesh, a woman comes forward and claims that Ramesh is her husband, who had abandoned her soon after their marriage.
Honest mint employee, Ghanshyam (Shreeram Lagoo) gets framed for murder by Joseph D'Souza (Amjad Khan), and has to flee from the police. He is separated from his wife, Radhika (Seema Deo), two sons, and a blind daughter. Years later, Ghanshyam, after being forced to work for Joseph to print fake rupee notes, is rich and known as Vikram Singh; his daughter and wife are homeless and destitute; his elder son, Ravi (Vinod Khanna) is a burglar at night, and a rich and respectable man named Kunwar Dilip Singh during the day; his other son, Sushil (Raj Babbar) is a police inspector, adopted by the Police Commissioner (Om Shivpuri). Joseph, now known as Tripathi, comes to know that Ravi is Ghanshyam's son, and devices a scheme that will bring certain death to Ghanshyam and his family.

Shanti
Ravi (Jeetendra) overhears a beautiful woman, Namrita (Rekha), singing a sad song. He falls in love, and tries to pull her away from the abyss of suicide. As time goes by, he proposes and introduces her to his family, only to find out that she is already married to Rajesh. He leaves home destroyed, attempting to understand life after she completes suicide...only to run into her at an ashram, where she claims she is not the same person, but a look-alike.
Inspector Verma is shocked when he discovers that his son has turned out to be a criminal. He takes up the challenge to reform his son and make him a law-abiding citizen.

Suresh's (Sanjeev Kumar) wife dies due to some illness leaving behind her mother (Durga Khote) and two children, Chunnu and Munni. Time passed kids grow older. Durga Khote wants Suresh to get married again but Suresh hesitates. Khote's Brother wants his daughter (Bindu) to marry Suresh as he has lot of wealth. But Suresh does not like her. Meanwhile, Munni and Chuunu's teacher goes on month tour leaving behind temporary teacher Nirmala (Sharda).
Champa
An impossibly innocent villager named Ganga comes to the big city to find a girl who would agree to become his wife. The first girl he meets is actually a troubled prostitute named Champa whom he manages to rescue from the brothel she has been in for some time. He takes her home and in a most typical Hindi film style, announces her as his sister. Along with them lives a crippled middle-aged man. Ganga falls for a beautiful girl named Barkha, and her parents agree to have them married, but alas, Barkha's brother Rakesh identifies Champa and the marriage is cancelled as a result.
Rani
A poor man with a large family struggles to make ends meet. His troubles are compounded when his daughter injures her foot which needs to be amputated. Desperate, he decides to abandon her.
Anita is a weird girl, who either looses her memory or pretends to not remember.
Hiroka (Hurato's daughter)
Dr. Gautamdas (Rajinder Kumar) attains his qualifications in London, England, and with the blessings of Lord Bertrand Russell (himself), returns to his home country and his dad (Balraj Sahni). Much to the disappointment of his dad, Dr. Gautamdas decides to re-locate to Japan, which has been devastated by the explosion of atom bombs on two of it's cities - Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There he meets with other doctors, and is given a tour of the patients and their families, and other survivors (Om Prakash, Chand Usmani, Baby Kavita). {Graphic scenes of the atrocities inflicted on innocent people} On a chance meeting with the beautiful Meloda (Saira Banu) he knows that they are destined to be one, and so does she. Meloda's dad is also a doctor (Chetan Anand). Meloda had studied in India and speaks Hindi fluently. Both fall in love amongst the splendour of Japan.

A dying man entrusts his lives earnings to Purshotam, a stranger he just met, and asks him to promise to take this money to his wife, and son, Pradeep, in a remote village in India, to which Purshotam agrees. Sunder, a laid-back young man, cares nothing about responsibilities towards his own future or of his family's. At much persuasion by his widowed mother, Sunder leaves on a journey to find a suitable groom for his sister Laajo. Situations arises and Sunder ends up marrying Pilu, daughter of Mooley Shah from the neighboring village. Sunder's mother and maternal uncle Bishandas are happy for Sunder's marriage but are disappointed by Sunder's irresponsibility towards Laajo's marriage. This time Bishandas decides to accompany Sunder for a groom hunt. After a few attempts they find a boy for Laajo, Atmaram, a government employee. The marriage takes place, but Atmaram's father Lala Kedarnath asks for money as dowry. This puts Laajo's marriage in jeopardize. Finally, Bishandas manages to make Atmaram to disown his father and accept Laajo.
