História
João Rui Guerra da Mata was born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique. He teached Art Direction at the Lisbon Film School from 2004 to 2011. In 1997 he co-starred in the short PARABÉNS!, directed by João Pedro Rodrigues, that won the Special Jury Mention at the 54th Mostra di Venezia. As an Art Director, he worked in several features and shorts, notably the ones directed by João Pedro Rodrigues, whose films he also co-scripted. This collaboration lately evolved to co-direction, namely in the shorts CHINA, CHINA (2007) – 39th Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes; Best Short Film and Audience Award, Belfort Film Festival and ALVORADA VERMELHA (2011) – Best Portuguese Short Film, IndieLisboa Film Festival; international premiere at Locarno Film Festival. O QUE ARDE CURA (2012) is his debut solo film.

From our window one can see a set of the film The Green Years, directed by Paulo Rocha in 1963. This was our starting point: guided by Rocha's gaze, we look back at the places of that film. The successive geological, urbanistic and social strata of Lisbon, besieged by the pandemic that interrupted the shooting, are drawn out in front of our camera, like a contemporary jazz impro from a score written in 1963.

Mysterious portrait of Fernando, aka Deborah Krystal, the glittering and poetic performer of the Lisbon club Finalmente, where he has been performing every night over thirty years in golden dresses. Under the layers of his colorful fabrics, the many skins of Fernando are revealed, letting Lisbon’s legends come to life. Alternately woman mermaid, female birds, woman lion, we are taken into the desires and dreams of metamorphosis and myths.
Em 2013, para celebrar o seu décimo aniversário, o IndieLisboa tinha convidado quatro realizadores a filmarem em Lisboa: Dominga Sotomayor e Marie Losier (vencedoras da Competição Internacional com “De Jueves a Domingo”, em 2012, e “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye”, em 2011, respectivamente), e Denis Côté e Gabriel Abrantes, duas presenças recorrentes do festival. “Aqui, em Lisboa” é o surpreendente resultado – quatro autores com quatro visões diferentes da cidade de Lisboa, passando pelos registos da ficção, do documentário, da comédia ou do fantástico. Mas com o traço comum que espelha o festival que os acolhe: a independência.

Pressionada por Rosário a dar o último passo para assumir a sua identidade feminina, a mudança de sexo que a irá transformar numa mulher, Tonia luta contra as suas mais profundas convicções religiosas. Se por um lado quer ser a mulher que Rosário deseja, por outro sabe que perante Deus nunca poderá ser essa mulher.

Odete, ajudante de supermercado em Lisboa, sonha em ser mãe. No entanto, quando ela revela seu desejo ao namorado, ele termina o relacionamento. Isto não impede Odete de ficar cada vez mais obcecada com a ideia da maternidade. Em outro ponto da cidade, o amor entre Rui e Pedro é interrompido quando este morre em um acidente de carro. Sozinho, Rui começa a perder a vontade de viver. Mas, estranhamente, o fantasma de Pedro parece querer unir Odete e Rui para realizar o sonho de uma e terminar com a desesperança do outro.
