A former couple remembers their most intimate days, only to part once again. A bittersweet love story inspired by a Jim Jarmusch masterpiece, set in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Takeshi Aoki
Aoki is a failing novelist, and Sol is a failing pop singer. Encountering each other in South Korea, speaking different languages, they and their families somehow end up in a truck heading off into the Korean countryside.
The entire dialogue is extracted from the original work (narration is not used), although it is greatly abbreviated in order to make it a short film. However, with the exception of switching to a relatively realistic screen for the recollections that accompany the dialogue, almost the entire film takes place in a space within or around a single tatami room, as in a rehearsal (reading) of a play. The clothing is an exaggerated representation of the character attributes of the original story. Sakiyo's mask is a headgear that is an exact copy of the head of the actor who plays him, and is simply made unusually large so that it is recognisable as a mask.
The storyline is basically the same as in the original work, although there are many parts where logic is omitted. The dialogue and narration have been reconfigured considerably, with some of the speakers being changed, but almost all of it is composed of words extracted from the original work. However, with the exception of Kindaichi, all the characters are played by women, the dialogue is almost barbed, and the clothing deviates slightly from what is appropriate to the situation, thus eliminating any sense of reality. The reason why Nanako's jumper and Washio's trousers were needed is not clear, as the murderer swims to Nanako's room in her clothes. In addition, Lieutenant Kamio's subordinate is simplified to only one detective, Aoki.
Although greatly abbreviated and simplified, and in a back-and-forth sequence, almost all of the dialogue and narration is based on words extracted from the original story.
The setting of the original film (1957), in which long-distance calls are connected to a switchboard so that the recipient knows where the call is coming from, has been eliminated, and the public telephones are digital telephones installed after 1996.
Other alterations include the following.

Almost all of the dialogue and narration is extracted from the original story, and there are no particular deviations from the original storyline, but the images tend to be devoid of reality. For example, the scene in the ruins of the mansion where Saeki and Kindaichi talk to each other is somewhat fantastical, and Kindaichi's appearance is also unrealistic. In addition, Saeki and Yumi's sex life is represented by the 'dancing futon'. The behaviour of those attending the first anniversary of the death of Saeki and Yumi is unnaturally exaggerated.
Almost all of the dialogue and narration is extracted from the original work, with only minor differences in the storyline as follows. Yashiro Ryusuke's own home is located on Y Koji. When he first accompanies Kanako on the road, Kagawa meets her in front of Yashiro's house, and Kamei also appears there. Dr Asano's wife did not show up. It is explained that Kagawa has two girls (in the original story, one is a student at a girls' school, but the gender of the other is unknown). The introduction of the 'one in 500 murderers' is told against the backdrop of Kindaichi excavating an air-raid shelter (which appears to have been made from a natural cave).
The content of the story is largely the same as the original work, with almost all of the dialogue and narration consisting of words extracted from the original work, but the order of the narrative has been changed. In a major part, the narrative begins with Kasuya Rokusuke's visit to Kindaichi's office and goes back to the beginning of the original story in the form of images showing Kasuya's explanations, and there are many other minor changes to the order of the narrative. In addition, the following alterations can be seen, which simplify the movements of the characters
The second Black Ranhime in the coffee room does not speak to Kinji Miyatake over the table, but stands up and speaks to the side.
Finally, after the third Kuro Ranhime appears, all the movements of the characters are within the third floor, and no stairs are used. In particular, Aki Isono moves in the opposite direction to the original, away from the women's clothing department.
