No ano de 1501, a peste negra s espalha pela população. Um grupo de mercenários comandados por Martin (Rutger Hauer) luta ao lado do nobre Arnolfini, que quer recuperar seu costelo. Os mercenários deveriam recebe ruma boa quantia, mas acabm sendo passados para trás pelo nobre. Em busca de vingança, eles sequestram Agnes (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a noiva do filho de Arnolfini, e invadem o castelo.
