Um avião passa sobre uma pequena ilha do Golfo Persa, no Irã e lança uma caixa, próxima ao "posto" de guarda de dois jovens soldados. É dia de eleição, na caixa estão os materiais para os votos e é missão de um deles acompanhar um agente do governo responsável por recolher os votos dos habitantes da ilha. O guarda do turno prepara seu jipe, mas se assusta ao perceber que o agente do governo é na verdade uma mulher. A contragosto, os dois passarão o dia a recolher os votos, e conhecerão juntos um pouco mais da vida na ilha.

Ghesse Haye Kish was originally produced as a six-episode omnibus film with finances from investors on the Island of Kish in the Persian Gulf, which is a free zone belonging to Iran. All episodes take place on the abandoned island, which had profited from the passing ships between Asia and Europe in ancient times, and they are all about solitude.These three episodes were shown in competition at the 52nd Cannes Film Festival in 1999.

Sensibilizado com o caso do rapaz, o diretor Abbas Kiarostami o procura e pergunta o que pode fazer por ele, que responde "estou sofrendo muito, faça um filme sobre meu sofrimento".
