Uma garota sem nome, saltitante e desmaiada, sai de um ônibus e entra em um bar no bairro de Nova Jersey, de propriedade de dois irmãos de meia-idade, Jimmy & Victor. Ela rapidamente faz amizade com o irmão mais velho, Victor - um lummox bem-humorado cuja mente foi afetada por um acidente de infância. A misteriosa "Garota" logo perturba o delicado equilíbrio da vida do irmão enquanto traz problemas e vida nova ao seu mundo e cidade resignados.

Isidor's Tortilla Heaven is the best restaurant in New Mexico maybe even the world. But though his tortillas are scrumptious, his enchiladas divine, Isidor has never made a dime. Why? He lives in Falfurrias, population 73. One Sunday, while all the town, including his wife and son, are piously praying mass, a miracle occurs. Upon one of his famous, hand-made tortillas appears the face of Jesus Christ.

Rick is frustrated by the repetitious grind of one-night stands and aimless hustling. Whilst looking for more to his life he meets Heather, a neighbour. Rick takes the opportunity to escape his boring life style with her, but soon finds that his volatile behaviour threatens to finish their relationship before it even really begins.
