Initial D Battle Stage (special) will summarize the major street races from the two TV series. Rather than simply using clips from the TV series, the new special will entirely re-animate all of the original CG car and background footage with new state-of-the-art computer graphics rendering. The special will also feature entirely new Super Eurobeat music and guest commentary from legendary "drift racer" Keiichi Tsuchiya.

20 anos antes, Yuji Kaido, que fora diagnosticado com uma doença grave, é colocado em uma câmara criogênica até que a cura fosse encontrada. Quando desperta, Yuji descobre que se passaram 20 anos, e agora se encontra em meio a uma batalha entre grandes soldados blindados e estranhos insetos azuis que supostamente dominaram a Terra. Uma tropa foi enviada pela colônia espacial “segunda Terra” para recuperar os “Sleepers” na Terra habitada pelos insetos azuis. Entre eles, o soldado Marlene Angel, que desenvolve um forte vínculo com Yuji enquanto tentam voltar para a Segunda Terra.
