Os Pecadores do Inferno… Pessoas que cometeram graves crimes em vida e agora sofrem eternamente no submundo. Estes Pecadores pretendem usar o poder da forma Hollow de Kurosaki Ichigo para tentarem acabar com seu aprisionamento. E para atrair Ichigo ao Inferno, farão de tudo, até mesmo sequestrar Yuzu, a irmã do Shinigami. Ao chegar à estação de trem que leva à morte eterna, uma alma triste recebe a notícia de que teve sorte e ganhará outra chance de viver. Ela, então, assume o corpo de um garoto de 14 anos chamado Kobayashi Makoto, que acaba de tentar suicídio. Assistida por um espírito neutro chamado Purapura, a alma deve descobrir qual foi o seu maior pecado e o que errou em sua antiga vida antes que seu prazo no corpo de Makoto se esgote. Ele também deverá cumprir uma série de outras tarefas menores, como entender o que levou Makoto a cometer suicídio e aprender a aproveitar sua segunda chance na vida.

As a child Takuma is diagnosed with a heart condition that requires care from a cardiologist. He soon becomes friends with his doctors young daughter Mayu while being treated at the hospital. One day Mayu overhears her father saying that Takumas condition is serious enough that he most likely wont live beyond the age of 20. Takuma isn't aware of this himself, however, so at 8-years-old he makes a promise to marry Mayu when they turn 20. Later in life, Takuma becomes aware that he wont be able to keep this promise and he begins distancing himself from Mayu in hopes of protecting her.

Com este fato, é dada a ordem de execução de Hitsugaya Toshirou pela Soul Society.
