Arthur Batanides (April 9, 1923 – January 10, 2000) was an American film and television actor, originally from Tacoma, Washington. He became enamored with acting after performing stand-up routines in front of fellow GIs in Europe during World War II. He was educated in dramatic art at the Actors' Lab in Los Angeles, followed by extensive stage experience.
One of his more recognizable television roles was that of the unfortunate Starfleet officer/geologist D'Amato in the Star Trek episode "That Which Survives". Among his film credits are The Unearthly, Violent Road, The Leech Woman, Man-Trap, The Maltese Bippy, Evil Roy Slade and Brannigan. He also appeared as Mr. Kirkland in four of the Police Academy film series, and the sixth installment (City Under Siege) was his final acting appearance.

Mr. Kirkland
Um novo grupo de recrutas chega à Academia de Polícia e desta vez eles são voluntários civis, que aderiram ao plano "O cidadão se defende", do Comandante Lassard. Mas apesar de ter apoio governamental, o Capitão Harris está determinado em ver o plano fracassar, pois crê que os policiais podem perder seus empregos depois de algum tempo.
Mr. Kirkland
A cidade tem duas academias de polícia, uma está sob o comando de Eric Lassard e a outra de Mauser. Este último soube que o estado, por falta de verbas, fechará uma das duas. Para se proteger, fala com Kyle Banks e Chad Copeland e os suborna, para que ter certeza que os cadetes de Lassard fracassarão. Lassard, por sua vez, chama seus formandos prediletos: Mahoney, Hightower, Jones, Tackleberry e Hooks que, junto Callahan, tentam treinar os cadetes na esperança de salvar a Academia.
Old Man Kirkland
Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) e os companheiros acabaram de se graduar na Academia de Polícia, e como cadetes iniciantes têm que sair em uma missão. O grupo de desajustados vai ter que enfrentar uma gangue de vândalos que estão trasnformando a cidade em um verdadeiro caos, e só assim conseguirão baixar as taxas de criminalidade da cidade, mas não conseguirão diminuir as confusões.
