After committing a crime for which he is likely to be jailed, a Yolngu teenager convinces two of his childhood friends to join him on a journey from North East Arnhem Land to Darwin to seek help from a tribal leader.

For the first time in 15 years, all four siblings in a family show up to care for their dying mother, who is only given a couple of weeks to live. One comes from America with her two children. A divorced sister also comes with her child and sneaks off regularly to meet a mystery man who may be her ex-husband. The third & youngest daughter is an unmarried nurse aware of her ticking biological clock. The only son chases after his grumpy father who seems to not care a whit about his wife's circumstances. The four are also faced my their mother's dreams to accomplish a few things before she dies - to visit a beach she had visited in the past, to see her youngest married, and to visit Paris. She also wants to be embalmed and be honored with a 21 gun salute. Thus the whole group has to set off in the quest to fulfill their mother's wishes.

Três histórias intercaladas sobre marginais, sexo e violência. Em "Hero", Richie, aos 7 anos, mata seu pai e vai para longe. Após o evento, um documentário em cores palidamente elegantes pergunta o que aconteceu com o Richie e o que induziu aos tiros. No branco & preto "Horror", um cientista isola o elixir da sexualidade humana, o bebe e se torna um assassino fervoroso e contagioso; uma colega que o ama tenta ajudar, apesar do perigo. Em "Homo", um preso na prisão de Fontenal é atraído por um preso que conhecia alguns anos antes, no instituto juvenil de Baton, e cujas humilhações ele testemunhou. Esta história é contada em luz fraca, exceto pelos flashbacks brilhantes.

O ex-condenado Josh Hutton foi acusado a 15 anos de prisão por haver matado a namorada e o pai dela. A princípio, Vic quer manter a filha bem longe de Josh, mas muda de idéia ao descobrir que uma relação humana pode ter semelhanças com uma transação capitalista.
