Quando ele retorna à Terra da Estrela Dourada pela primeira vez em mais de trinta anos, ele toma em seu ambiente local como qualquer turista ocidental faria, e o ambiente é tão exótico quanto a língua é incompreensível. O objetivo das viagens de Kit – encontrar um lugar para espalhar as cinzas de seus pais – torna-se assim parte de uma jornada de volta às suas raízes e à descoberta de sua identidade, que circunstâncias externas tornaram ambíguas e complexas.
