Apesar de ter ganhado um ouro olímpico pelo Reino Unido e ter uma bela propriedade, Eric Liddell nasceu na China, aonde viveu a maior parte de sua vida, ensinando e evangelizando. Este filme traz a verdadeira história deste grande atleta, que se recusou a correr na Olimpíada de 1924 por ser em um domingo, dia de honrar a Deus. Depois destes eventos, Liddell voltou para a China, onde mora seu coração, todavia, os tempos no país estão turbulentos, pois o Japão Imperial está começando a dominar a região e a aterrorizar a população.

Uma médica se vê em uma situação completamente angustiante nessa produção de suspense. Ela deve escolher entre salvar seu marido ou sua filha depois que os dois são seqüestrados. Ao mesmo tempo, ela corre para descobrir quem os seqüestrou e o motivo. Aparentemente, conforme ela vai chegando às respostas, vai descobrindo que tem algo a ver com algum ex-paciente que não ficou muito satisfeito com seus métodos. Daí em diante começa uma corrida contra o tempo e um conflito moral de onde não se tem como escapar. Seja qual for a sua decisão e o resultado dela, a culpa sempre a estará acompanhando até o final de seus dias.
