Carlos Reygadas é um cineasta mexicano. Influenciados pela arte e filosofia existencialista, os filmes de Reygadas apresentam jornadas espirituais aos mundos internos de seus personagens principais, por meio das quais são explorados temas de amor, sofrimento, morte e sentido da vida. Reygadas foi descrito como "a terceira onda de um homem só do cinema mexicano"; seus trabalhos são geralmente considerados filmes de arte e são conhecidos por sua cinematografia expressionista, tomadas longas e histórias carregadas de emoção. Reygadas ficou fascinado com o cinema em 1987, ao ver as obras do aclamado cineasta soviético/russo Andrei Tarkovsky, falecido no ano anterior. Em 1997, ele entrou em uma competição de cinema na Bélgica com seu primeiro curta-metragem, Maxhumain.

The film is comprised of ten short films about the concept of revolution, relating in whatever way to the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
