Empire of Brazil, 1870. A queer indigenous body slowly dies on the cross while a transgender gypsy woman is banned by her people. A half-breed soldier stands in the middle of the way. A child and an old woman cross their stories like destined lines on the palm of a hand.
Set Decoration
Josefina viaja para a região do Douro, em Portugal, para tomar conta do sobrinho Alexandre. Ela se dedica ao garoto, que foi abandonado pela mãe. Mas Alexandre acaba de chegar à adolescência e quer namorar. O jovem quer afirmar sua independência, o que acaba gerando um embate com a tia. Ele se aproxima da mãe, Ângela, que reaparece para reclamar sua partilha da herança. No entanto, a dedicação de Josefina é muito forte para ser esquecida.

Castuera, Espanha, Abril de 1939. Durante a noite dois Guardas Falangistas surgem à porta da casa onde Paz se encontra refugiada com a família. Solicitam a sua presença na esquadra. Paz compreende imediatamente a fatalidade desta visita nocturna. Sem possibilidade de fuga, pede para amamentar a sua filha recém nascida uma última vez.

Mena lives alone with her daughter Clara. Today is Clara’s seventh birthday. Despite her limited financial resources, Mena still manages to organise a birthday party. But after a phone call from her mother, she becomes distraught and anxious.

A portrait of the daily life of Zé de Sabino, a fisherman who works and lives in the breathtaking village of Regência, Espirito Santo (located near the Rio Doce, which suffered one of the greatest environmental tragedy in Brazil's history). The vastness of man is a place suspended in time, bordered by sky, land, river, and sea.
