Картина начинается с игровой прелюдии, в которой работа представляется как инновационная и первая в своем роде. В разгаре этой торжественной речи звучит телефонный звонок, и неслышимый собеседник явно сообщает о первой, классической, «Фантазии», однако говорящий совершенно не понимает, о чем речь, забавно перевирает услышанные слова и называет позвонившего лжецом.

«Проклятие» рассказывает историю Каррера, подавленного мужчины, влюбленного в замужнюю женщину, которая поет в местном баре “Титаник”.

Молодой парень по имени Феникс находится в больнице для душевнобольных. Сны перемешиваются друг с другом в хаотическую феерию, образы повторяются и сталкиваются. Китано реальный цитирует собственные фильмы, вспоминает свои клоунские телевизионные шоу, его мучают навязчивые образы, преследующие стереотипы якудза-имиджа. Переживания режиссера на темы его восприятия окружающей средой выражены той самой беспорядочной избыточностью стрельбы, с которой массовое сознание связывает его имя и образ.
