Над территорией Канады терпит загадочную катастрофу "Боинг", перевозивший суперсовременный космический челнок "Мунрейкер" из Великобритании в США. Распутать этот таинственный клубок под силу лишь лучшему агенту с лицензией на убийство. Бонд направляется к хозяину фирмы-производителя "Мунрейкера" мультимиллионеру Хуго Драксу с целью провести расследование, но тот заявляет, что беспокоится не стоит и его вполне удовлетворят лишь извинения за потерянный шаттл.

После беспрецедентной серии стихийных бедствий, обрушившихся на нашу планету, лидеры мировых держав объединили усилия, чтобы создать разветвленную сеть орбитальных спутников по контролю над климатом для предотвращения природных катаклизмов. Но что-то пошло не так — система, выстроенная для защиты Земли, теперь угрожает ей. Группа юных американцев, мечтающих стать астронавтами и покорять безвоздушное пространство, отправляется на летние каникулы в «Космический лагерь» — тренировочный комплекс, созданный под эгидой НАСА (Американской национальной ассоциации астронавтов). «Космический лагерь» раскрывает перед ними все очарование космического полета и требует жесткой дисциплины и умения работать в команде, необходимых для завоевания новых миров. И вот наступает самый волнующий момент: ключ на старт… взлет… и трое ребят и двое девчонок во главе с инструктором НАСА Энди неожиданно для самих себя взлетают к самым настоящим звездам на борту космического челнока. Никто из будущих астронавтов и не мог подумать, что «игра в космос» обернется реальностью, и они переживут невероятные приключения на космической орбите.

Во время орбитального полета космического челнока, выполнявшего военную программу, происходит взрыв, в результате которого погибает один из астронавтов. Как потом выясняется, причиной взрыва становится НЛО, в последующем совершившего вынужденную посадку на территории США. Небольшая группа военных и политиков, опасающихся ненужной и рискованной шумихи вокруг этого ЧП накануне президентских выборов, делают всё, чтобы сохранить происшествие в тайне. Вернувшихся на Землю астронавтов изолируют, а НЛО отправляют для исследований на военную базу и прячут в ангаре под №18. Но друзья погибшего астронавта не хотят сидеть сложа руки и предпринимают собственное, и весьма рискованное расследование..

E.J. Mackernutt, Jr., an 11-year-old boy who has always been fascinated by space and astronauts, sneaks into Cape Kennedy and becomes a stowaway on a spaceship scheduled for a lunar landing.
