Ernst Busch

"Busch singt" consists of 6 films "About the first part of our century" and does not present Ernst Busch only as a singer but is a film with and about Busch as a chronicler and fighter for communist ideals of his time. Konrad Wolf died during the production, he directed part 3 "1935 oder Das Faß der Pandora" and part 5 "Ein Toter auf Urlaub".

During the Thirty Years' War, the camp-follower Anna Fierling, called "Mother Courage", travels the length and breadth of Europe with her covered wagon. She does not care if it's Catholics or Protestants she trades with as long as business thrives. She loses her three children as a result of the war: bold and spirited Eilif, sincere and upright Swiss Cheese and mute Katrin, who saves the children of Halle by beating a drum on a farmstead roof In wartime, the Fierling children's virtues prove to be deadly. Yet, Mother Courage, remains incorrigible. She will not have anyone "spoil the war" for her and so sets out once more after the soldiers with her wagon.

Его бойцы остаются практически без воды, пищи и боеприпасов. Тяжело раненый комиссар перед смертью дает задание пяти добровольцам доставить важное донесение в штаб, для чего делит его на 5 отрывков и помещает их в отдельные патронные гильзы. Каждый получает по одной гильзе, четверым бойцам, путем неимоверных испытаний, удается добраться до своих и узнать тайну донесения.

Начало 1933-го года. В маленьком немецком городе убит рабочий Ганс Лемке, узнавший о секретном военном производстве на местной парфюмерной фабрике. Его брат, Фриц, мечтавший о футбольной карьере, оставляет свои планы ради того, чтобы вывести убийц Ганса на чистую воду. От одного из местных проходимцев по имени Отто Фрицу с друзьями удаётся узнать, что боевики СА собираются устроить поджог фабрики, чтобы скрыть следы преступления. Но это оказывается провокацией. Теперь сам Фриц становится подозреваемым в этом преступлении. Процесс по делу о поджоге парфюмерной фабрики начинается параллельно с процессом о поджоге рейхстага. Пример неукротимого борца с фашизмом Георгия Димитрова становится для Фрица Лемке образцом для подражания...

Hell on Earth (German: Niemandsland) is a 1931 German film directed by Victor Trivas. The film is also known as No Man's Land in France.

In the very oldfashioned town of Ostend suddenly 13 suitcases are delivered to the hotel, with a note, that O.F. will be here soon and needs 6 rooms (the hotel just has five). This event, probably the biggest in 300 years, starts a small wave of modernisation, yet everybody is wondering who O.F. is. Journalist Stix and architect Stark have an idea how to use this event. They proclaim, that O.F. is a former citizen of the town, who became a millionaire abroad. They tell their fellow citizens that the town still needs modernisation, like better hotels, nightclubs, shops, etc. And soon, Ostend is a boomtown, then a capital. The architect, responsible for the new buildings is finaly allowed to marry the mayor's daughter, while Stix marries the cabaret star and the widowed mayor his new secretary. The only problem is, O.F. hasn't shown up, while finance experts from all over the world are trying to solve the depression problem.

This Brechtian musical about a young woman who flees from her decrepit, noble fiancé and marries a sailor is an interesting, although not a completely successful attempt to translate the sort of stage show to film. It has some good points, including the complete abandonment of the sort of surrealistic stage design that had enlivened the silent cinema. Instead, this tries for a purely cinematic technique, including multiple exposures, undercranking and distorting camera angles and lenses.
