Только рабочим – южанином у де Сике становится женщина – многодетная мать Клара Матаро (Флоринда Болкан), а вместо борьбы за свои права, после обморока на работе она уезжает подлечиться за счет фирмы на курорт в итальянских Альпах. Тем более, что атмосфера дома, сдобренная отсутствием наличности оставляет желать много лучшего: муж лежит со сломанной ногой, а безработный деверь усложняет и так непростую атмосферу.
