Фильм исследует течение времени, с помощью живописных сцен и мелких деталей создающий мир традиций и совершенства, в центре которого — человек, ищущий свое место в великой идее.

Десятилетний Олег живет на востоке Украины, в зоне военных действий, где часто слышна зенитная стрельба и отголоски ракетных ударов. Иногда эти звуки доносятся издалека, иногда — пугающе близко. Хотя многие уже покинули опасную зону, Олег остается здесь с бабушкой, которая заботится о нем с тех пор, как его мать умерла. Им просто больше некуда идти. Ожидая окончания войны, Олег коротает время со своим младшим двоюродным братом Яриком и старшим — Костей. Вместе ребята ищут приключений, обсуждают, каким должен быть настоящий человек, проверяют границы друг друга, но иногда заходят слишком далеко. В течение года авторы наблюдают за жизнью Олега и его бабушки, раскрывая тему влияния военного конфликта на детей.

В фильме режиссер обращается к теме геноцида в Индонезии в период 1965-1966 годов. История вращается вокруг семьи выживших в том кошмаре, которые пытаются выяснить, кто убил их сына и брата.

The filmic approach playfully balances on the edge between documentary and fiction, thereby both underlining and adding to the theme of the film. The two directors have filmed Troels for 4 years, capturing all his ups and downs, the defining moments, both the hilarious and the sad. This material will be combined with Troels¿ video diary where we get even closer, and animation that will bring life to Troels¿ text and inner universe in a compelling and humoristic way. The animation is done by the artist Carl Krull whoose very distinctive style matches Troels¿ story and personality, combining darkness and humor, the grotesque and the beautiful. It will be subtly integrated into the filmed material, at times taking over completely. The story of Troels and the visual approach melt together.

Pablo is a working class man that believes that the former Boca player Diego Maradona is a God. La Tía (The Auntie) is an old eccentric, she considers Boca players her sons. Football is God is a film about football, faith, passion and the need for being part of something bigger than one self.

Displaced captures a collective portrait of Ukrainians fleeing the grindstones of war, and those who stayed and are forced to adapt to life under constant shelling.
