A meditation on the movement of people around the world. The encounter with a new homeland, a new culture and a new system. Melina, 18, a refugee from the Middle East, is stuck in the system that is meant to help her find work in her new homeland.

After Anschluss — the Nazi invasion and incorporation of Austria in 1938 — a group of Jewish children travel from Vienna to Oslo for summer camp. But when the time comes for them to return home, the political conditions on the continent have worsened and they can no longer return to their families. In Norway, an orphanage is established to look after these effectively homeless children, one of whom is director Nina Grünfeld’s father.

The hospital clowns are a group of professional performing artists who specialize in working with children in hospitals. The clowns contribute to positive experiences for children and young people in an otherwise demanding life situation.

A young man ends up in the living room of a middle-aged woman whom he has met at a bar after closing. The very drunk woman gives an incoherent speech on feminism, Norwegian oil and global solidarity. She does not offend the Norwegian-ethnic man when she points out their common destiny as the oppressed where she is a woman and he is black.
