Jakob Feierabend has a hard time. Everywhere he applies for work, he is rejected. The reason is his last name. He also fails as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. A small carnival is in dire financial straits. Their show is attracting fewer and fewer paying customers, as their "attractions" are ageing, out of shape and beset by internal feuds and bickering.
