Швейцарские Альпы, 1975 год. Сразу после самоубийства местного священника в горной деревне Трепунт появляется загадочная девушка. Ведёт она себя крайне странно, не разговаривает и к тому же до смерти боится крестов и распятий, благодаря чему жители начинают считать её ведьмой. Единственным, кто встаёт на защиту девицы, становится полицейский Ройш. Вскоре в Трепунте происходит несчастный случай с женой мэра, в котором вновь оказывается замешана гостья. После этого сдерживать недовольство суеверной толпы Ройшу становится всё сложнее.
