人類のほとんどがバンパイアと化した近未来、食糧源である人間の数は減少する一方だった。バンパイアは不老不死である代わりに、人間の血液を取り込まないと理性を失い凶暴化してしまう。そんな中、自らもバンパイアである血液研究者のエドワード（イーサン・ホーク）は、絶滅寸前の人間に危害を与えずに済む代用血液の開発に奮闘するが……。
