少年時代からいつも一緒にいる一卵性双生児の兄弟、エリオットとビヴァリー。容姿はうり二つだが、性格は兄エリオットが社交的で野心家、弟ビヴァリーが内気な努力家と正反対。兄弟はトロントで婦人科医の医院を営むが、ビヴァリーは診察した女優クレアの子宮が3つに分かれていたので驚く。やがてクレアはエリオットと肉体関係を持つが、クレアはエリオットに双子の弟がいることを知らない。こうして異様な三角関係が生まれる。
