ホビット族の青年ビルボ・バギンズは、魔法使いのガンダルフや屈強なドワーフの一行と共に、たった一頭で一国を滅亡に導くと伝えられる邪悪な竜スマウグに奪われたドワーフの王国を奪取すべく旅に出る。竜の潜む山を目指す道中、巨大なクモの大群や凶暴なオークたちが一行の行く手を阻むように次々と立ちはだかる。

前作の主人公ビリーと恋人ケイトは二人そろってニューヨークで新生活を送っていた。大富豪クランプの所有するクランプ・センターがその働き口だったが、ビリーはそこで、チャイナタウン再開発のために発見されたモグワイと再会する。しかしまたしても偶然と失敗が折り重なってモグワイの体からグレムリンが発生、しかも今度はセンターの研究所で開発中のバイオ・テクノロジーと融合、新種のグレムリンが大量発生してしまうのだ。

British estate agent Renfield travels to Transylvania to meet with the mysterious Count Dracula, who is interested in leasing a castle in London and is, unbeknownst to Renfield, a vampire. Infamous burglar "The Bat" commits a daring jewelry theft despite heavy police presence. Soon after, a bank theft occurs, which may be the work of the criminal as well. When guests start turning up dead, Cornelia begins to suspect that The Bat may be lurking around the estate.

Dr. Paul Carruthers feels bitter at being betrayed by his employers, Heath and Morton, when they became rich as a result of a product he devised. He gains revenge by electrically enlarging bats and sending them out to kill his employers' family members by instilling in the bats a hatred for a particular perfume he has discovered, which he gets his victims to apply before going outdoors. Johnny Layton, a reporter, finally figures out Carruthers is the killer and, after putting the perfume on himself, douses it on Carruthers in the hopes it will get him to give himself away. One of the two is attacked as the giant bat makes one of its screaming, swooping power dives.

Lt. Col. Iceal "Ham" Hambleton is a weapons countermeasures expert and when his aircraft is shot over enemy territory the Air Force very much wants to get him back. Hambleton knows the area he's in is going to be carpet-bombed but a temporary shortage of helicopters causes a delay. Working with an Air Force reconnaissance pilot, Capt. Bartholomew Clark, he maps out an escape route.
