Marie is a chubby girl who's steadily paying off her debts by working at a brothel introduced to her by a black-market lending company. One day, she meets a guy on the street by the name of Kazu. Taking an instant liking to him, she invites Kazu to come live with her. It soon becomes apparent that he doesn't seem to have a job and the allowance money he receives from her goes straight on playing around. In spite of this, he is always on hand to lend Marie an ear when she talks about her insecurities. Though Kazu is somewhat of a freeloader, she enjoys living with him but things take an unexpected turn when one of her regular clients suddenly proposes to her. Marie confides in Kazu by telling him what happened. After she wakes up next day, she discovers that he has disappeared. Several days later, she finds Kazu and accompanies him to his house. Waiting for them is Kazu's wife, Mitsuko, a beautifully slim lady and the mirror opposite of Marie.

2035年。度重なる天変地異と経済危機、治安悪化により、日本は荒廃していた。国から見捨てられた地方都市ではテロリストが勢力を持ち、略奪や誘拐が日常茶飯事的に行われており、多くの人々は希望を失っていた。そんな地方都市のひとつ・八萬市（エイトシティー）では、治安維持のために自警団・ヒーロー協会が設立される。闇金に手を出し借金取りから逃げ回っていたニートの横峯誠（横山裕）は、ヒーロー協会にスカウトされる。他に揃っているのはアルコール依存症の渋沢薫（レッド／渋谷すばる）、チェリーボーイの村岡雄貴（ナス／村上信五）、ショッピングサイトにどっぷり浸かっている丸之内正悟（オレンジ／丸山隆平）、青いものを見ると買わずにはいられない安原俊（ブルー／安田章大）、プライドばかり高い元バンドマンの錦野徹朗（イエロー／錦戸亮）、純粋で優しすぎる大川良介（グリーン／大倉忠義）というやる気のないダメ人間の掃き溜めだった。横峯はそんなエイトレンジャーのリーダーを任されてしまう。一方、警察としてもはや機能していない八萬署の中にも、型破りだが正義感あふれる刑事・鬼頭桃子（ベッキー）と伝説のヒーローであるキャプテン・シルバー（舘ひろし）に憧れる新米刑事・仁科遥（蓮佛美沙子）は市民を守ろうと日夜努めていた。しかし彼女らの奮闘もむなしく、テロリスト集団ダーククルセイドの第3部隊は誘拐・人身売買で儲け無職の市民を次々に取り込み、着々と勢力を増していた。エイトレンジャーはダーククルセイドの一味に立ち向かうべく、キャプテン・シルバーに付いて修業を積む。ある日、ダーククルセイドからキャプテン・シルバーの元へ刺客が送り込まれる。これを破ったエイトレンジャーが暗殺者の仮面を取ると、正体はこの街で生活の手立てを失くした老人だった。借金返済のためにヒーローを担う者と生活のために暗殺者となった者。エイトレンジャーたちは市民を守る本気の覚悟が足りないことに気付くが、キャプテン・シルバーの導きにより、国や周囲に見捨てられた自分たちだからこそ誰も見捨てずに人々を守ろうと決心する。そんな中、彼らの元にダーククルセイド第3部隊を率いるMr.ダークから、キャプテン・シルバーを引き渡さなければ市内にある石油コンビナートを爆破させるとのテロ予告が届く……。

人里離れた山間の村。木こりの岸克彦（役所広司）は、早朝から仲間と山林に入り、木々を伐採して生計を立てていた。妻に先立たれ、今は息子の浩一（高良健吾）と2人暮らし。定職に就かずにふらふらしている浩一に、克彦は憤りを覚えていた。妻の三回忌はもうすぐ。ある朝、田舎道を行く克彦は、車が溝にはまって立ち往生している2人を発見する。ゾンビ映画の撮影にやってきた映画監督の田辺幸一（小栗旬）と鳥居（古舘寛治）だった。なりゆきから、2人を撮影現場まで案内することになった克彦は、そのままゾンビのメイクでエキストラ出演する羽目になる。木こり仲間たちから出演をネタにされ、まんざらでもない克彦。撮影途中の映像を見るラッシュ試写に呼ばれた彼は、小さく映る自分のゾンビ姿に思わず苦笑いする。傍らでは幸一が、自分の腕を噛みながら、苦々しい表情でスクリーンを見つめていた。現場では、大勢のスタッフやキャストから質問攻めにあい、頭が混乱して昏倒してしまう幸一。そこへたまたまやってきた克彦は、弁当を食べながら幸一に年齢を尋ねる。彼が25歳だと聞いた克彦は、生い茂る松の木を指さし、“あそこに松が生えてるだろ。あの木が一人前になるのに、ざっと100年はかかるよ。”と告げる。またある日、露天風呂から上がり、克彦と一緒にそばをすすっていた幸一は、父親が買ってきたビデオカメラをきっかけに、映画を撮り始めるようになったことを語る。しかし、実家の旅館を継がなかったことで、父親は後悔しているだろうと。克彦は“後悔なんかしてねえよ。自分の買ってきたカメラが息子の人生を変えたんだ。嬉しくてしょうがねえだろうよ。”と幸一を諭すのだった。やがて克彦は積極的に撮影を手伝うようになり、撮影隊と村人たちとの間に、少しずつ一体感が生まれてゆく。やがて、撮影はいよいよ佳境を迎える……。

This surrealistic comedy follows the life of Haruo Maekawa, a young man who makes a living catching squid. Haruo is obsessed with catching a legendary giant squid rumored to live in Tokyo Bay. Haruo's uncle Takashi, fallen on hard times, comes to stay with his nephew until he can get back on his feet. Uncle Takashi is addicted to energy drinks, and seduces any woman in sight, including Haruo's girlfriend Rika. While praying at a Shintō shrine, Uncle Takashi is bitten in the scrotum by a poisonous snake and dies. The uncle is destined to spend the afterlife in Hell unless his nephew and girlfriend can rescue him from the King of Hell.
