2022年7月15日に創立百周年を迎える日本共産党。経済最優先の新自由主義をおし進める自由民主党が長く政権を担う日本において、左派政党として独自の立ち位置を貫いてきた。 コロナ禍が続く2021年、本作は日本共産党の99年目の姿にカメラを向ける。夏の東京都議会議員選挙、秋の衆議院総選挙にのぞむ議員たちの活動をはじめ、入党から60年を超える古参の党員、共産党の機関紙である「しんぶん赤旗」編集部、若い世代の支援者、そして党の周りの人々をカメラは追う。東京オリンピック・パラリンピックが反対世論もある中で開催され、その一方繰り返される事業者への休業要請、市民へ自粛を求める風潮に、社会の分断は一層進んでしまった。自己責任、自助努力という言葉が頻繁に飛び交うなか、あるべき政治の役割とは何なのか、いまほど問われているときはないであろう。
