성 밖 늪지대에 사는 엄청나게 못생기고 무지무지 큰 괴물 슈렉. 지저분한 진흙으로 샤워를 즐기고 동화책은 화장실 휴지 삼아 쓰는 그는 혼자만의 시간을 즐긴다. 그러던 어느 날, 자신만의 고요한 안식처에 백설공주, 신데렐라, 빗자루를 타고 다니는 마녀, 피리부는 아저씨, 피터팬, 피노키오 등등.. 동화속의 주인공들이 모두 쳐들어온다. 그 중에서도 가장 귀찮은 건 쉴새없이 떠들어대는 당나귀 덩키. 알고보니 얼굴이 몸의 반을 차지하는 1m도 안되는 숏다리 파콰드영주가 동화속의 주인공들을 다 쫓아낸것. 결국 슈렉은 파콰드영주와 담판을 지으러 떠난다. 하지만 일은 이상하게 꼬여 결국 파콰드영주 대신 불뿜는 용의 성에 갇힌 피오나 공주를 구하러 떠나게 되는데..

더 크고 신나는 세상! 사랑스런 아내, 아들과 함께 평범한 농부로 사는 파머(제이슨 스타뎀 분)는 어느 날 세상을 지배할 야욕에 찬 마법사 갤리언(레이 리오타 분)이 보낸 크러크 군단들이 마을을 습격하자 가족을 지키기 위해 싸우지만 아들은 죽고 아내는 납치당한다. 정복전쟁에 참가한 탓에 뒤늦게 도착한 왕과 왕의 군대에 불만을 느낀 파머는 콘레드 왕(버트 레이놀즈 분)의 제안을 거절하고 자신의 힘으로 아내를 구하고자 그의 스승인 노릭(론 펄만 분)과 함께 원정대를 만들어 크러그 군단들을 추적한다. 한편 왕은 마법사 갤리언이 크러그들을 조종해서 군대를 만들고 왕의 조카인 듀크 공작을 앞세워 왕국을 차지하려는 계획을 눈치채지만 대규모 전투 중 갤리언에게 독살당하고 왕국은 위기를 맞게 되는데..

한 발명가가 만든 인조인간인 에드워드는, 발명가의 갑작스런 죽음으로 가위가 달린 손을 가진 채 미완성으로 남아 있다. 화장품 외판원 펙은 마을 언덕 외딴 성에서 상처투성이 창백한 얼굴과 날카로운 가위손 때문에 외롭게 살고 있는 에드워드를 만나 자신의 집으로 데려온다. 평범한 일상에 무료해하던 마을 사람들에게 큰 관심거리가 된 에드워드는 펙의 딸 킴을 만나 첫눈에 사랑에 빠지지만, 그녀의 남자친구의 질투와 이웃들의 편견으로 도둑으로 몰리며 더 큰 오해에 빠지게 되는데...

마티스는 드넓은 숲속을 지나가는 사람들에게 약탈을 일삼는 산적들의 두목이다. 비바람이 몰아치는 밤, 마티스의 딸이 태어나고 마티스의 아내는 아이에게 로냐라는 이름을 붙여준다. 그런데 산적 일당들이 한바탕 축하 잔치를 벌이는 도중에 천둥이 울리고 땅이 갈라지면서 이들이 살던 성도 두 쪽으로 갈라진다. 세월이 흘러 로냐는 산적 패거리들의 사랑을 받으며 씩씩하고 용감한 소녀로 성장한다. 그런데 갈라진 성의 나머지 한쪽에 보르카가 이끄는 산적 패거리가 들어와 살면서 마티스 패거리와 갈등을 빚는다. 어느 날 로냐는 보르카의 아들 비르크와 우연히 만난다. 처음에는 아빠의 원수지간인 보르카의 아들이라는 이유로 비르크를 적대시했지만 이내 둘은 서로에게 마음을 열고 좋은 친구가 된다. 하지만 원수의 자식과 친구처럼 지내는 로냐가 못마땅한 마티스는 비르크를 인질로 잡고 보르카 패거리에게 성에서 당장 떠나라고 요구한다. 아빠의 행동이 원망스러운 로냐는 자진해서 보르카 패거리의 인질이 된다. 결국 두 아이를 맞교환하면서 소동은 마무리되지만 어른들에게 실망한 로냐와 비르크는 성에서 뛰쳐나와 온갖 위험이 도사리고 있는 숲속으로 들어가는데... In this hybrid of live-action and stop-motion animation, a young Hans Christian Andersen goes in search of knowledge in the Garden of Paradise in order to make his studies easier. Each time he falls asleep, he experiences in his dreams the different characters he would later write about in fairy tales including The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina and The Emperor's New Clothes.

When a selfless king learns of a beautiful princess in a neighboring kingdom who callously turns down every suitor with an insult, he tries his luck to no avail. So, he hatches a plot with her father in which the princess is married to him, in disguise as a beggar, so he can teach her lessons about humility and compassion.

Fantaghiro and Romualdo are preparing their marriage when the Black Queen disgusted by their deep love captures Fantaghiro's father. Romualdo and his soldiers go on their journey to free him. But the insidious Black Queen transforms herself into Fantaghiro, makes Romualdo her slave by kissing him and captures the rest of his army. Fantaghiro follows Romualdo although she promised him to stay home, finds the camp deserted and enters the near castle of the Black Queen. When she asks for a duel to free her people she is very surprised to face Romualdo who has forgot her completely due to the magic of the Black Queen.

The powerful evil wizard Tarabas gets knowledge about a prophecy that a king's child will defeat him. So he sends out his army of dead soldiers to kidnap all royal children. When the soldiers attack Fantaghiro's castle to steal the babies of her sisters, the battle seems to be lost until she discovers the secret to defeat the solders but by doing that she loses Romualdo. Now Fantaghiro must find the evil wizard Tarabas and convince him to break the spell and bring back Romualdo.

A black cloud travels across country, kills animals and plants and dries up the rivers. When the cloud reaches Fantaghiro's kingdom she meets Prince Parsel who follows the cloud to get his stolen castle back. After her castle vanishes, too, Fantaghiro joins Parsel on his journey to find her home, her people, her family and her love.

In this last episode princess Fantaghirò ends up in a parallel dimension fairy land full of kids. Here the princess must fight against a villain called "Nameless".

A short melodrama based on Hans Christian Andersen's harrowing tale. A poor little girl tries to sell matchsticks in the freezing December cold. She lights matches for some light and warmth. There are visions: a fireplace, dinner, a Christmas tree. She sees her dead mother, welcoming her.
