As a luxurious ocean liner makes its way across the Atlantic Ocean, the audience is made privy to the travails of several of its passengers. Edmund Lowe heads the cast as Monty Greer, a suave gambler who falls in love with Judy, the daughter of immigrant lens grinder Rudolph Kramer. In trying to recover some valuable securities stolen from banker Henry Graham, Greer finds himself in the middle of a fierce gun battle in the ship's engine room. Meanwhile, Graham, who has been cheating on his wife Kay with sexy dancer Sigrid Carline, is murdered by person or persons unknown.

Winnie Lightner is the head of a health clinic and has Joe E. Brown as one of her employees. Brown is a wrestler named JoJo and he is forced to enter the ring and face down a musclebound masked opponent (Frank S. Hagney). Making matters worse, the masked marauder is convinced that his wife has been fooling around with JoJo. JoJo is knocked out early in the proceedings, whereupon he dreams he's a sultan surrounded by harem girls. A romantic subplot involves Paul Gregory and Claudia Dell. Gregory works for Dell's father and Dell asks her father to give Gregory a promotion so that she can spend more time with him. When Gregory refuses to be promoted without earning the position, she threatens to have him fired and Gregory quits his job. Gregory attempts to start a new career as a championship wrestler and is trained by Lightner and Brown. When Dell finds out about this, she attempts to stop him and asks for his forgiveness. She pleads with him to not fight but he has already promised...

Danny and Slick got the idea that Jimmy would be the ideal candidate, especially because of the fact that the heavy has announced he would kill another sheriff. With some help Jimmy is elected, but Molly leaves Danny with a New York shyster for Mexico. Mitzi, Danny, Kitty, Patsy - Jimmy's sweetheart as well as Jimmy and Slick follow her to win her heart back for Danny, but they are followed by the local heavy and his friend.

Ammunition industry executive Winkelreid is scheming to prevent their mission becoming an success, but the vamp Dolores aboard the ship fails, falling in love with Nilly, and so does Fifi, the toughest person of the world in Paris, falling for Glub. Although Winkelreid is able to steal their secret papers, Nilly and Glub don't give up after being reminded by constant observation of their Indians and enter the Peace conference, which turns out to be a battlefield...

막스 브라더스의 첫 장편영화. 영화는 플로리다에서 호텔을 경영하는 미스터 해머(그루초 막스)가 경영난에 직면하자 이를 타계하기 위한 계략을 꾸미는 과정을 마치 뮤지컬을 보듯 흥겨운 노래와 춤으로 보여준다. 영화로 만들어지기 이전 이미 동명의 뮤지컬 작품을 약 18개월 동안 상연하며 인기를 누렸고, 브로드웨이 입성 후 큰 성공을 거두었다. 초기 유성영화 작품 중 하나인 이 작품은 자세히 보면 당시 열악한 제작 환경을 엿볼 수 있다. 미스터 해머가 플로리다 부동산 지도를 보여 주는 장면에서 사운드를 녹음하는 음향 장비의 과도한 작동을 막기 위해 지도를 일부러 물에 적셔 둔 장면이 눈에 띈다. 막스 형제의 작품은 훗날 많은 영화 작품과 문화계에 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 테리 길리엄은 자신의 영화에 막스 형제의 작품을 여러 차례 인용했는데, 에서는 온 가족이 을 보는 장면을 삽입해 눈길을 끌었다. ‘스펄딩’이라는 인물은 TV 프로그램에서도 등장했던 캐릭터로 잠시의 쉴 틈도 없이 움직이며 동시에 입을 놀림으로써 황당하면서도 통쾌한 웃음을 선사한다. 어느 날 리튼하우스 부인의 대저택에서 화려한 파티가 개최된다. 이 파티에는 탐험가 대장 지오프리티 스펄딩이 참가하며 또한 부유한 예술후원가 로스코 W. 챈들러가 보가드의 유명한 그림 ‘사냥후’를 파티장에 전시한다고 하여 더욱 화제가 되고 있다. 곧 파티가 시작되고 많은 사람들이 모여들면서 파티장은 소란스러워진다. 한편 이 곳에 온 그레이스와 존은 서로 사랑하는 사이이지만 아직 알려지지 않은 화가인 존의 경제능력이 없어 결혼을 하지 못하고 있는 상태이다. 그들은 존을 세상에 알리기 위해 존이 베낀 보가드의 ‘사냥후’를 몰래 진품과 바꿔치기 하기로 한다. 수많은 소동 끝에 그림을 바꿔치기 하지만 사람들은 곧 이를 알아차린다. 오랜 범인 색출 작업 끝에 경찰이 출동하기에 이르고 결국 사람들은 존과 그레이스가 한 짓이라는 것을 알아낸다. 하지만 사람들의 요청에 의해 경찰은 범인들을 너그러이 용서하고 존은 그의 그림 실력을 인정받기에 이른다. 과 함께 막스 형제가 브로드웨이에서 활동할 당시 인기를 끌었던 뮤지컬을 영화화한 작품. 영화는 아프리카 탐험가인 제프린 스펄딩을 주축으로 부유한 리튼하우스 부인의 저택에 초대받은 손님들과 사라진 그림을 둘러싼 좌충우돌을 유쾌하게 그렸다. 파라마운트사에서 제작한 막스 형제의 두 번째 작품이자 뉴욕 퀸즈의 파라마운트 아스토리아 스튜디오에서 촬영한 마지막 작품이기도 한다. 아스토리아 스튜디오의 일부는 현재 미국영상박물관(The American Museum of the Moving Image)로 사용되고 있다. 헐리우드 역사상 코미디 영화에 가장 큰 영향력을 끼친 형제 재담꾼들로 연극, 영화 라디오에서 30년 동안 인기를 끌었으며 사회 저명인사들과 조직사회에 대한 재기 발랄한 공격으로 유명하다.

촉망받는 소프라노 로자와 아직 데뷔하지 못한 그녀의 애인 리카르도, 그리고 로자를 빼앗으려는 허영심 많은 성공한 테너 로돌포 사이의 삼각관계를 그린다. 식은 죽 먹기(Duck Soup)의 흥행 참패 이후 2년간 작품 활동이 없었던 막스 형제에게 MGM의 프로듀서 어빙 탈버그가 함께 작업할 것을 제안하면서 제작한 첫 번째 작품이자 막스 형제의 출연작 중 가장 높은 수익을 기록한 작품이기도 하다. 막스 형제는 염세적인 성향의 무정부주의자였다고 알려져 있는데, 이런 성향 때문인지 파라마운트에서 제작했던 초기 작품들은 다소 거칠고 엉성하지만, 그들만의 염세적인 세계관이 잘 드러난다고 평가받는다. 반면 MGM으로 이적 후 제작된 작품은 잘 짜인 플롯에 상황마다 적절한 위트가 배치된 대중적인 작품으로 흥행에서 큰 성공을 거두었다. 록그룹 퀸은 1975년에 동명의 앨범을 발표했으며, 다음 해인 76년에도 막스 형제의 출연작 중 하나인 경마장의 하루(A Day at the Races)라는 이름의 앨범을 발표해 막스 형제가 영화계뿐만 아니라 문화계에 미친 영향을 확인할 수 있다.

기록영화 제작자 데남은 공룡과 싸우면서 신장 18미터의 섬의 왕자, 킹콩을 사로잡아 뉴욕으로 데리고 돌아온다. 하지만 카메라 플래쉬에 놀란 킹콩은 창살을 부수고 뛰쳐나와 사랑하는 앤을 붙잡아 엠파이어 스테이트 빌딩의 옥상으로 오른다. 그러나 복엽기로 공격을 받고, 앤을 지키면서 부상입은 킹콩은 떨어져서 죽는다.
