아메리칸 리그, 동부 '클리브랜드 인디언즈'라면 여러 팀 중에서 전통을 자랑하는 대팀이지만 그간 15년 동안에 이 팀은 우승은 고사하고 4위 이상에 한번도 못 오른 팀으로 전략한다. 여기에 인디언스 구단주가 사망하자, 도도하기 그지없는 쇼걸 출신의 야심만만한 여자 레이첼 필립스가 취임한다. 그녀는 본거지인 클리브랜드에서 마이애미로 옮기면 자신에게 엄청난 이득이 생기게 되는데 이를 야구연맹에서 합법적으로 인정 받으려면 구단과 시가 맺은 계약에서 1년에 80만 달러 이하의 수입을 올리지 못하면 언제든지 떠날 수 있다는 조건을 이용하려한다. 그래서 클리부랜드에서의 이 팀의 인기를 완전히 없애려고 구단 총감독으로 부임한 찰리를 시켜 전국 각지에서 모은 오합지졸의 형편없는 선수들만 구성하여 새로운 인디언즈 팀을 구성한다. 아무 것도 모르고 몰려든 멤버들은 메이저 리그에 출전하게 된 것에 신바람이 나기는 하나 실력면에서 여구단주의 계획대로 연습부터가 형편이 없다. 무릅 때문에 앉아서는 공을 제대로 던지지 못하는 포수 제이크를 비롯하여, 자신의 빠른 발로 도루할 생각은 않고 실력도 없으면서 폼만 멋있게 잡고 홈런만 치려는 메이즈, 150의 강속구지만 정확도는 형편없는 투수 릭 본, 직구는 거의 홈런만 치는 명타격수지만 좋지 않는 공도 모두 방망이만 믿고 휘두르는 세라노, 눈 앞에 떨어지는 공도 처리 못하는 내야수 돈. 한편, 일생동안 아무 터전없이 살아온 릭키는 자기를 가족의 일원처럼 받아준 팀을 만남으로서 마음이 풀어지기 시작한다. 또한 30세 후반에 들어선 제이크는, 자신에게 등을 돌린 애인 린에게 접근하면서, 한낮 꿈으로 여긴 리그 출전을 위해 팀을 인솔해가는 동안 인생을 다시 생각하기 시작한다. 이 두 사람을 주축으로해서 별난 사람들이었던 팀 멤버들도 스스로 심경의 변화를 일으킨다. 이제 꿈만같은 리그의 우승이 목전에 다가오고, 그들은 클리블랜드의 영웅으로 부상한다.

Stage-and-night club star Jeannie Laird buys her first home, and everyone who is anyone comes to her first garden party only to be blinded by smoke from next door. Jeannie charges next door to bawl out her new neighbor and meets comic-strip artist Bill Carter. Bill has devoted himself to his strip, and raising his ten-year-old son Joe since the death of his wife. Joe bases his strip on the everyday happenings of he and his son and is proud of keeping it scrupulously honest. When Jeannie and Bill fall in love, young Joe is hurt, especially when Bill starts using a lot of the father-son time to be with Jeannie. Bill cancels a father-son trip to Canada, and Joe decides to write a letter to Bill's syndicate pointing out that the current plot line of the script being set in Canada isn't honest, since they didn't go.

Two episodes. The 1st is 'Amore impossibile' (Impossible love). Giulio is a comic book draftsman. He is passing through a creativity depressed period. One day his editor makes him meet a blond nice girl. Immediately Giulio fall in love and starts to draw his impossible love story into a new comic book. The 2nd is 'Quello dal basco rosso' (the one with the red beret). Sandro, a mature man, meets one of his former girlfriend and her daughter Daniela. Daniela couldn't have sex with her boyfriend because of a childhood remembrance. In fact she always remember her mother having sex with a man wearing a red beret. She discovers that man is Sandro, makes love with him and soon recovers from her obsession.

But this upsets the Pett's so much that they go back to New York, and he follows, being careful not to let them know that he is the one who draws the strip that parodies them.

The most accessible of these escapes is what are known as the funny papers, the set of serialized comic strips that are included within many newspapers. They appeal to all socio-economic classes, and all ages. Some of the earliest known from the late 19th century include the Yellow Kid, Little Nemo, Happy Hooligan, the Katzenjammer Kids, Mutt & Jeff, and Bringing Up Father. Many cartoonists are seen in action. Some originated their characters, while others have taken over following the passing of the originator. The joy of many comic strips are the absurd and the fantastical, which are limited only by the imagination of the cartoonist. Others are grounded in reality, which add to their poignancy within the public mindset.
